Calum McFarlane will take charge of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Leeds, as well as their four remaning league fixtures this season.

McFarlane, who was Rosenior's assistant, was in charge for a 1-1 draw against Manchester City and a defeat at Fulham in January after previous boss Enzo Maresca was sacked.

He joined Chelsea after two years in charge of Southampton Under-21s and, like influential recruiter Joe Shields, previously worked in Manchester City's academy.

  4. Blues are 'especially vulnerable' if they miss out on Champions Leaguepublished at 18:54 BST

    Nizaar Kinsella
BBC Sport Chelsea reporter on BBC Radio 5 Live

There is so little leeway for Chelsea to save their season now; even Europa League qualification through the league at this stage.

I think Chelsea are the most hurt from not having Champions League football. My sources at the club say they won't be punished by Uefa if they don't get in the Champions League, and that they will balance the books, but I think it really hurts them - and even Rosenior said that in one of his press conferences.

It just makes everything harder when you are trying to revamp the squad and attract the best players. With those losses, I think Chelsea are especially vulnerable.

  5. Team news - Brooks starts for Cherries; Leeds unchangedpublished at 18:52 BST

    Bournemouth v Leeds (20:00 BST)

Andoni Iraloa makes one change to the Bournemouth XI that won 2-1 at Newcastle on Saturday.

David Brooks comes in to captain the side with Rayan dropping to the bench.

Victory would take the Cherries up to sixth, four points behind Liverpool in the final Champions League spot.

Bournemouth XI: Petrovic, Jimenez, Hill, Senesi, Truffert, Scott, Christie, Brooks, Kroupi, Tavernier, Evanilson.

Subs: Mandas, Gannon-Doak, Adams, Smith, Diakite, Adli, Unal, Toth, Rayan.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke sticks with the same team that started both Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wolves and the 2-1 victory at Manchester United last week.

Noah Okafor scored three times across those two games, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late penalty against Wolves ended the striker’s six-game Premier League goal drought.

The Whites will move 11 points clear of the relegation zone with a win tonight.

Leeds XI: Darlow, Justin, Bijol Struijk, Bogle, Ampadu, Tanaka, Gudmundsson, Aaronson, Okafor, Calvert-Lewin.

Subs: Perri, Rodon, James, Longstaff, Piroe, Nmecha, Bornauw, Gnonto, Buonanotte.

Burnley v Man City (20:00 BST)

    Shamoon Hafez
BBC Sport football reporter at Turf Moor

Burnley make three changes from the side that were beaten 4-1 at Nottingham Forest last time out.

Bashir Humphreys, Loum Tchaouna and Josh Laurent come in for Florentino, Marcus Edwards and Lesley Ugochukwu, who all drop to the bench.

Former Manchester City captain Kyle Walkers takes the armband for the Clarets against his old side.

Burnley XI: Dubravka, Walker, Esteve, Ekdal, Humphreys, Hartman, Tchaouna, Ward-Prowse, Laurent, Anthony, Flemming.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola makes just one change following their monumental win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Rodri fails to recover from a groin injury suffered in that game, so Rayan Ait-Nouri comes in at left-back.

It means Nico O'Reilly is shifted further up the pitch in more familiar territory.

Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, Ait-Nouri, Silva, O'Reilly, Semenyo, Doku, Cherki, Haaland.

I've rarely seen a manager lose a dressing room so quickly and so obviously.

Difficult to see where Rosenior goes next. Perhaps re-establish himself in Europe. Personally with his payout, I'd buy a yacht and sail off onto the sunset.

Daz R Taylor: They take Rosenior from Strasbourg, whose fans wanted him to stay, and boot him out four months later. Nice pay-off. Rather than sack managers every few months, why not look at the players?

  13. 'Rosenior was not the biggest problem at Chelsea'published at 18:37 BST

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea fan Teema Nicholls reacting to news of Liam Rosenior's sacking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "He had to go. He couldn't have stayed, but Liam Rosenior was not and is not the biggest problem at Chelsea.

"Those that appointed him and other managers have also got to face serious questions and the sack as well.

"I think they put him in an unfair position and we as a football club are now facing consequences. Whoever is appointed next is a huge appointment. I don't think the ones that appointed Rosenior can be part of that decision-making."

  14. What have the fans been thinking?published at 18:35 BST

Supporters, like the players, have expressed differing views, but the widespread anger among the fanbase has been largely directed at the club's American owners.

A growing but still fringe protest movement, Not A Project CFC, attracted more than 500 fans who marched to Stamford Bridge before Saturday's defeat by Manchester United.

It harked back to the end of last season, when chanting against the ownership began. Chelsea Supporters' Trust has also written an open letter to the club highlighting its concerns.

A further fans' forum meeting is scheduled to take place this week.

Rosenior was drawn into the anger, with expletive-laden chants directed towards him from the away end. His predecessors, Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino, also faced similar treatment, but not so early in their tenures.

  15. Players' frustrationspublished at 18:33 BST

Liam Rosenior had become a point of frustration, according to multiple figures close to Chelsea players.

The extent of that frustration varied. Some described him as a friendly character who means well, while others enjoyed working with him at his previous club, Strasbourg, part of the same BlueCo ownership group.

Others, notably several Spanish-speaking players, are understood to have preferred working under Maresca. That was reflected in interviews given by Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez.

Decisions to rotate goalkeepers and limit minutes for certain players, including Josh Acheampong, who often features briefly from the bench, have caused some discontent.

Perhaps most concerning is the atmosphere within the leadership group. One source inside Chelsea said senior players are often quiet when invited to give their views during near-daily team meetings.

Liam Rosenior had overseen a run of five consecutive defeats, during which time his Chelsea side had failed to score a single goal.

It was the club's worst run of defeats without scoring since 1912 - the year that Titanic sank.

Chelsea's owners acted after the Blues' were completely outplayed in a 3-0 loss at Brighton on Tuesday, when they failed to muster a shot on target and finished with an xG of 0.4.

  19. 'Comical scenes'published at 18:23 BST

    Chelsea huddleImage source, Getty Images

Liam Rosenior’s four-month reign at Chelsea will be remembered for an emphasis on “respecting the ball” and for his defence of the pre-match huddle that saw his starting XI encircle referee Paul Tierney.

The comical scenes before a defeat by Newcastle summed up the unfortunate ridicule faced by the 41-year-old from supporters during his first Premier League job. But it also marked the point at which a downturn in form began, one that would eventually lead to his downfall.

A five-game losing run without a goal culminated in a 3-0 defeat away at Brighton. Poor as the performance was, it forced the hand of the sporting directors, who met on Wednesday morning and decided to part company with their latest appointment.

You can't help but feel sorry for Rosenior. He couldn't say no that job, but he clearly wasn't ready for that job, and that lies squarely on the Chelsea board for not doing a proper search and going straight for him. Hope it doesn't ruin his career
