Lauren Wade's goal has put Hearts on the brink of history
Hearts will secure their first SWPL title win if they defeat Glasgow City at home next Sunday, after victory against Celtic restored their four-point lead at the summit with two games remaining.
Second-place Rangers had moved to within one point of Eva Olid's side following their win against Partick Thistle earlier in the day, but Hearts striker Georgia Timms swiftly fired the league leaders in front in a frantic first-half at New Douglas Park.
Scottish Cup finalists Celtic pegged them back before the half-hour mark, Republic of Ireland international Saoirse Noonan converting from the spot after Lisa Robertson won the penalty.
But Northern Ireland midfielder Lauren Wade ensured the league leaders would be going in to the break with a lead after calmly slotting in what proved to be the winner.
The visitors pushed for a third in the second-half, and were unfortunate not to find it, but ultimately it didn't matter as they held on for a vital three points.
Should they beat City - who are out of the title race following their defeat to Hibs - at Oriam on Sunday, 17 May at 13:10 - live on BBC Alba - they will be crowned champions.
