York moved one step closer to a return to the Football League for the first time in a decade after edging out in-form Tamworth at the Lamb Ground.

The Minstermen threatened early when Mark Kitching was denied by Jas Singh but the Tamworth goalkeeper was beaten in the 27th minute when Ollie Pearce prodded home a loose ball in the area.

Either side of half-time, Malachi Fagan-Walcott kept York ahead with a terrific goal-line block before City keeper Harrison Male produced an excellent save after Teo Kurtaran was played through one-on-one.

Jeff King thumped against the bar for the visitors but while York failed to give themselves a cushion, they held on to end Tamworth's four-match unbeaten run.
