On a boat, on a broom, on a mission

Summer is here on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show... and the time is right for dancing in the street. But apart from that I've been sailing, or I would have done if the tide had been in, tree spotting and visiting a desirable property in London.

All aboard

I had a great couple of hours last Saturday in Rowhedge, near Colchester. My mate Rick spends his life working on those beautiful Thames sailing barges; when he's not restoring them he's sailing them and he was skipper of the Pudge, which was on a charter sail around the Essex coast.

Ray on a barge

Sadly, Ray left his sea legs at home

The passengers on Pudge were a group of musicians who get together every year to play music and cruise around the coastline.

Together with Skipper Rick and Garry the mate, I was welcomed aboard as cabin boy, once I'd crawled aboard via a horizontal ladder!

T Rex or a Witch on a Broomstick?

The trees around Essex are looking wonderful this summer, could it be because of all the rain we've had.

A tree or a dinosaur?

Is it a dinosaur? Is it a witch? No, it's a tree!

There are two trees that are favourites of mine. One is in Ulting, on the road to Maldon. I think it looks like a tyrannosaurus rex, although Planet Ray listener Christine thinks it's a witch on her broomstick.

The other is at Great Easton, on the road to Thaxted. Look over to the right and you can see a space invader, although Planet Ray listener Audrey says it's a reindeer!

Have you seen any other 'strange' trees in our county?

Who would live in a house like this?

I went, with Major Tom, on a secret mission to a 'very famous London residence' on Tuesday.

You'll be able to hear how we got on next week on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show. But I was really excited to go there and see behind the scenes, and although the carpets were quite nice they are starting to show signs of wear.

Vroom, Vroom!

Major Tom writes:

"BREAKING NEWS: Raymond Colin Clark has mysteriously disappeared for two days this week, I think he's probably gone back to the mother ship for a holiday.

Tom and Christine at the Motor Show

Christine shows Tom how it's done

"I had a great time on Tuesday this week, when I popped over to the 2008 British International Motor Show with Planet Ray listener Christine from Chelmsford.

"She was our very own version of Jeremy Clarkson, only slightly more attractive! She's a self confessed car nut and had a great time. This is her crashing a car on a computer...

"Next week I'm off on my holidays but we've got a special series on the Ray Clark Breakfast Show. Find out what happened when me and Ray went to London to meet some very important people!"

Graham Bannerman with wellingtons

Ray's boots were not to Graham's liking!

A word from super-sub Graham Bannerman

(Ray was a bit under the weather at the end of this week, so top man Graham Bannerman took control)

Graham writes: "It's been quite amazing to step into Planet Ray for a couple of days. You really do feel like you've been beamed down into a different world.

"Filling Ray's boots (dodgy colour) has been great fun, but I'm quite glad to have a lay in and let Ray do all the hard work again when he returns on Monday to his rightful place.

"So it's back to Saturday afternoons for me tomorrow, with my mate Natalie Wood, who is out and about with Mr. Green Fingers himself, Ken Crowther."
