Alexander Zverev puts Rafael Jodar under some early pressure as he moves 30-0 in front against the serve.
But Jodar responds perfectly and the crowd get behind him when a forehand winner lands down the line. Jodar draws level when Zverev launches the ball high in the air and it ends up hitting the roof.
But Jodar can't keep the run going and has a break point to defend.

Alexander Zverev seems to be taking a little more time before each serve now - maybe he just wants to slow the tempo of this match a little.
There's a debate over whether he lands an ace to seal a hold to 30 but the umpire is down from her chair to check and it's deemed wide.

Alexander Zverev was a little unhappy with a pile-up of clay at the baseline in the previous game and it looks like the ball has just taken an awkward bobble as he completely misses with a forehand.
Rafael Jodar glides through the service game. A 105mph forehand makes it 40-0 before Zverev puts into the net.

It's a great start from Rafael Jodar to lead 30-0 against the serve but Alexander Zverev quickly settles back down and hits an overhead volley to halve the deficit.
Zverev picks up four successive points, finishing with a crashing forehand winner, to hold.

But it's a fine response from Alexander Zverev, who gets through his two serves without any hiccups.

A 10th forehand error of the match from the second seed allows Rafael Jodar to edge in front but Zverev atones and levels at 15-15 with some lovely net play.
Zverev moves within a point of the hold at 40-15 with an ace but the hold will have to wait. Jodar meets a drop shot at the net and cuts an extremely acute angle with the return for 40-30.

The German hits another winner down the line for advantage and could be about to break again.

An ace is a pretty perfect way to start.
Zverev moves into a 40-0 lead when Rafael Jodar is at full stretch and finds the net with a backhand.
