Plymouth Argyle's central midfield has been boosted by news that both Brendan Wiredu and Bradley Ibrahim are fit to play against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Argyle had been forced to recall youngster Caleb Roberts from his loan at Truro City earlier this month with Jamie Paterson moving inside to partner ever-present Malachi Boateng.

The crisis was compounded earlier this month by news that Herbie Kane would not play again this season.

But Ibrahim, 21, who has been out since February with an ankle injury, and 26-year-old Wiredu are both set to return on Saturday.

Wiredu has been out for a month after undergoing abdominal surgery.

"We've got a much stronger pool of players to pick from this week than we did have last," head coach Tom Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon.

"We'll certainly be sleeping a little bit easier knowing we've got more cover for that central midfield position, that's for sure.

"It's a real key part of the pitch, and I think Jamie Paterson's done a fantastic job for us in there, but to have specialists for that position back involved gives us a big boost."

Joe Ralls has scored once in 11 Plymouth Argyle appearances

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Joe Ralls could be fit to return for the League One play-offs, should the club finish in the top six.

The experienced 32-year-old has been out since January with a hamstring injury which needed surgery.

The former Cardiff City player joined Argyle on a short-term deal in September and extended his stay until the end of the season, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal.

Head coach Tom Cleverley said Ralls has been an important part of his squad, even when he has been on the sidelines.

"He'll be back for the first week in May, so whether he plays for us again or not is in our hands," he said.

"In the regular season Rallsy won't be fit to play, but we'll be having conversations with Rallsy about what the future looks like and he brings value even when he's injured.

"We all want to see him out there on the pitch, but trust me, he's got influence in that dressing room to keep driving this forward still."
