Southend made it two wins from two in the National League as Josh Popoola's first-half goal earned them a victory at home against Scunthorpe.

The home side struck in the 23rd minute when Harry Cardwell took a shot that was saved before Popoola stole in to knock in the rebound.

Oli Coker came close to making it two in the second half but his effort was deflected wide.

Victory saw the home side climb to fourth in the early-season standings while Scunthorpe were left still searching for a first win of the campaign.
