England boss Sarina Wiegman speaking to ITV: "Very hard game. There was a big difference between the first half and the second half. Of course, it's hard to keep the ball moving on this pitch.

"In the first half, we played OK although the tempo could have been higher. We created some opportunities but couldn't convert. In the second, they pressed higher and we have to make better decisions. We were struggling. We know they're good at throw-ins and corners and we defended them really well.

"There were some tricky moments so I am really happy we won it."

If we qualify and get to Brazil next year, will we remember this?

    Probably not.

But we'll remember making it and hopefully not going into a play-off.

  5. 'It's my job' - Hampton on savespublished at 19:49 BST

    FT: Iceland 0-1 England

    England

More from Hannah Hampton after making several big saves: "It's my job isn't it, really? We are in it as a team. I can't be the one scoring goals but I can stop them. We win as a team and that is what we pride ourselves on. We are a pack. Less [Russo] got a great finish at one end so I had to do my job at the other."

On leading the group: "That never goes well for England, does it? We always like to make it chaotic. We knew what we wanted to achieve in this camp, to get six points from the two games, we managed that which is a big bonus for us. We go into the next camp with positivity around us and we are going to keep trying to do what we can as a group."

England poor in the second half, no attacking ideas to relieve Iceland’s being in control - all the subs and yet no Kelly on, who always seems to bring a positive vibe to England and does create chances. Hannah Hampton awesome .

    Gary

Let's be honest, England were dreadful. And again, where would we be without Hemp & Russo, our two genuinely world class attacking players? Amazed Park didn't start, and our young players being tested out across the two games this week aren't good enough.

  7. 'We always like to make it chaotic' - Hamptonpublished at 19:45 BST

    FT: Iceland 0-1 England

    England

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton speaking to ITV: "My heart is intact! We know it was a tough second half, they put more bodies forward and more balls into dangerous areas. It was nervy at the end but we got the win.

"We would have liked to control the game a lot better than we did but know that they have a lot of threat and they got the momentum in their favour. They sent a lot of balls into our box and they are dangerous at set-pieces. We needed to make sure we were really solid in our defensive areas, and that we were."

Huge credit to Iceland for their comeback - and to Hannah Hampton for preserving England's lead.

Yet again, defence is uncertain, hesitant, sloppy, this victory owes much to Hampton, who tends to make mistakes then in the next breath atones for them.

    Gaz, Manchester

Yes, a win's a win but scoring in the first half and hanging on under pressure in the second, as we've done these last two games, is NOT a strategy that will bring success long term. More composure, less panic. More tempo, less casual. More clinical, less wasteful. Same resoluteness!

    FT: Iceland 0-1 England

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea midfielder on ITV

From England's perspective three of the back four were changed by the end, and Iceland made it difficult for us. They put us under a lot of pressure and credit to them for that. We didn't make it easy for ourselves.

It's progression. We've been in a similar situation, under a similar onslaught, in the same context before - and we haven't won the game.

You look at the results, it's how we would've wanted it. You can go back and unravel every detail - as they will do, because they want to be the best, and performances like that don't do England justice.

England should be very proud to come out with a win, having been put under a relatively unique onslaught. Crowding in the box, long throws - it's not something you come up against in every game.

But England just about managed to hold on and get a result.

I felt that Iceland knew that they had to change something going into the second half and they committed more players forward, went more direct. Perhaps some of the England changes disrupted their rhythm.

Iceland had five shots on target in that second half - to England's one.
