Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken tells BBC Sport Scotland: "Not a good enough first half on the ball. Maybe because of the early goal? But we didn't stick to the game plan and, out of possession, we were following the guys and man-marking, taking us out of position.

"We were just kicking the ball away and the ball was coming back at us just as fast. That was also not the plan. There were a few moments when we played, we felt we had a little bit of air.

"Second half was much better and then we saw Benfica also left spaces and we could play football. The goal was nice - that the players felt more and more confident.

"We wanted to go for 4-2 or 4-3, but when you are too open in these moments, they kill you. And it was sad that we give away two stupid penalties away. You can't do that here."

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "In terms of being at home and trying to have that home advantage, it's a big moment to go in front.

"It's hard to win games in European football, so to be winning after the first leg is very positive.

"It'll be very different when we go over there, but I think we'll be different. I can't stand here tonight and say we deserved to be further in front. It will be a very different game with us being in front - they'll have to come out a little bit.

"You need to enjoy that winning feeling. The players can be happy with the fact that we've won the game. We'll play better. I thought we played better on Saturday even though we lost the game.

"The biggest thing is you take the positives and the confidence from that, but we'll have to quickly put that to bed and look forward to Rangers on Sunday."

We can safely say that it will be Benfica who will go on to face AGF Aarhus of Denmark or Sabah of Azerbaijan in the Champions League play-offs.

It looks like Rapid Vienna will be next up for Hearts in the Conference League play-offs, with the Austrians having beaten Paide Linnameeskond 4-1 in their first leg in Estonia.

Iberia 1999 will be favourites to face Rangers in a Europa League play-off after their goalless draw in Larne, but should the Ibrox side fail to mount a comeback at home to Jagiellonia, the Czech Republic could be their next destination.

Jablonec beat RFS of Latvia 2-0 in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier.

Meanwhile, should Hibs protect their narrow lead over Shkendija after next week's trip to North Macedonia, Gent are favourites to be their play-off opponents after the Belgians' 1-0 win away to IFK Gothenburg.

Freiburg lie in wait for Motherwell should they complete the job at home to HJK.

One win, two defeats and one draw for Scottish teams in Europe tonight.

However, the losses were in the second-tier Europa League and the victory in the third-class Conference League.

Hearts are definitely out of things against Benfica, but Rangers will be confident of overturning the 2-1 deficit at home to Jagiellonia.

Motherwell too will feel they are odds on to progress after their draw in Finland, but Hibs take a shaky one-goal lead to Shkendija.

It was much better in the second half.

The game had so many similarities to my experience against Fiorentina, when Robbie Neilson asked us to defend deeper but be more aggressive in the defensive areas.

I thought Hearts were that tonight. I thought they were aggressive in the right areas.

I thought Calvin Miller did a really good defensive job in the second half compared to Alexandros Kyziridis on the other side.

What an intervention from Warren O'Hora with the winning goal. It changes the contest massively, never mind delivering a big dose of confidence.

It wasn't a classic display, but they showed enough promise to earn a vital win in dramatic fashion. Promising in Hibs' quest to reach the play-off.

I like Owen Elding, he's a bundle of energy and he's got great technique and looks like he's got an eye for goal as well.

I've said this before, I look at Hibs' squad and individually I think they've got loads of good players.

I think they've got an abundance of talent. It's more that cohesion as a unit. I don't think they've got it as a team yet.

While it's not the most comfortable scoreline to take to the second leg in Macedonia, a narrow lead is certainly better than a 1-1 draw for Hibs.

David Gray's side looked good in flashes, but so did visitors who will likely provide a tough test when they play at home.

The pressure has surely eased on Gray for now, but it's now a massive second leg next week.

Hearts have been hit for six as Wouter Vrancken's rebuilt side crumbled in Lisbon.

At times, Benfica cut them apart. At other times, Hearts rallied slightly.

But mostly, they were punished for some schoolboy errors and don't even have the small victory of leaving with their heads held high.

There's a hand ball right on the edge of the area, as Benfica threaten a sixth. Is it in the box though?

The ball does strike Oisin McEntee on the arm, but does it take a deflection off his foot and on to his arm?

Again, Benfica cut Hearts apart with just one ball as Silva slips behind the defender. One-on-one, the Portugal forward can only strike the outside of the far post.
