Thoroughly deserved, Lauren Hemp has been running all evening. Great vision from Beth Mead to make that pass.

Hemp has worked incredibly hard for Manchester City tonight, here she just reaps the rewards.

She's been fantastic. Her efforts on and off the ball have been incredible. What she's brought on the attacking side for Manchester City has been incredible. She's just built on her performance from last week.

FT: Aston Villa 1-4 Man City

Manchester City claim two wins from their two opening Women's Super League games for the first time since 2019.

Aston Villa can't have any complaints about the result - but they did have the champions looking a little nervous for parts of that second half.

  5. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 1-4 Manchester Citypublished at 20:19 BST

    Lauren Hemp (90 mins)

Beth Mead plays it long for Lauren Hemp to chase.

Hemp's resulting shot looks to be going wide, but it takes a deflection on Mathilde Harviken and finds the back of the net.

The icing on the cake for Andree Jeglertz's side.

What a twist that could have been.

Aston Villa substitute Miri Taylor has just leathered it toward goal from range but Ayaka Yamashita gets behind it well.

A great tackle by Lynn Wilms stops Lauren Hemp from adding a fourth.

Khadija Shaw, advancing on goal, plays it selflessly square to Hemp, but Wilms makes sure Hemp can't do anything with it.

That's a fantastic shot and just as equally a fantastic save.

Woof, what an effort from Mary Fowler, and almost from nothing.

She turns on the edge of the box and absolutely wellies it toward the top corner.

Well done to Akane Okuma for keeping that one out.

  13. 'Villa need those fresh legs'published at 20:05 BST

    Aston Villa 1-3 Man City

It's been tough in the middle of the pitch for Aston Villa. They've brought on some fresh legs to try and bring some energy.

Manchester City's quality is just overturning Aston Villa's efforts.

The majority of Man City's efforts are now coming from Villa's errors.

    Triple change for Aston Villa.

Miri Taylor, Georgia Mullett and Maya Hijikata are on.

Lucia Kendall, Chasity Grant and Justine Kielland are off.

  16. 'A lack of concentration'published at 20:03 BST

    Aston Villa 1-3 Man City

    Megan Campbell
Former Manchester City and Republic of Ireland defender on Sky Sports

That's the unfortunate thing about sticking to your guns, Aston Villa have been brave in playing down the side like that consistently.

Lack of concentration and a loose pass by Kendall. Lovely chip into the bottom corner from Bunny Shaw though.

  17. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 1-3 Manchester Citypublished at 73 mins

    Khadija Shaw (73 mins)

    Who could've seen that coming?

Manchester City have toiled and toiled in pursuit of a third goal, but it's a stray pass by Lucia Kendall which hands the initiative to Lauren Hemp.

She finds Khadija Shaw, as she has done so many times this game to no effect, but this time, it looks inevitable.

Shaw is one on one with Akane Okuma and she deftly lifts it over the Aston Villa goalkeeper to extend her side's lead to two goals.

    Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

An Aston Villa charge looks to be coming to nothing when Alex Greenwood inadvertently tips the ball into Noelle Maritz's path with a stray foot.

The Switzerland international's strike is powerful, but it's held by Manchester City goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita.

Aston Villa have had some opportunities, at the start of this half especially.

They are probably the cleaner of the two sides in terms of chances.

It's now just about trying to convert that.

With 25 minutes to go, Manchester City do not have things as firmly wrapped up as manager Andree Jeglertz might hope.

It will be an uncomfortable end to the game for him if City can't get a third.
