After two failed attempts, Bolton finally earn themselves promotion in the League One play-offs.

Too many errors at the back from Stockport - particularly from keeper Corey Addai, a match to forget from him - and a second-half performance from Bolton that was just a step above their opponents.

The better side most definitely won today and their 28,000+ fans will go home elated with the manner in which they've won this in the blazing heat.

Stockport failed in the semi-finals last year. They've lost in the finals today. Maybe the number three will prove lucky for them next year too.

In that moment when it was 1-1, the manager made a tactical decision. That gave them a threat in the frontline, they fully took advantage.

It was an outstanding decision and won them the game. Not just that, it got them back in the Championship.

Seven years after they made an ignominious exit, Bolton Wanderers are back in the Championship.

Ruben Rodrigues' third-minute opener was equalised by Adama Sidibeh.

That leveller came after Sidibeh had a goal disallowed by VAR.

An unfortunate own goal by Kyle Wootton put Bolton back in front before Jack Bonham came up with a stunning block to deny Tanto Olaofe a second leveller.

Sam Dalby's brilliant finish made it 3-1 before former Bolton defender Josh Dacres-Cogley lost his discipline, pulled Ibrahim Cissoko's hair and was sent-off with Rodrigues converting the penalty.

Bolton's first win over Stockport this season after a defeat and a draw and it's come in the most important game as well.

The pull on the hair is clearly evident.

We see defenders do this all the time, but grabbing hair, why on earth would you grab hold of him?

    A ludicrous chance to take.

Bolton conceded to Watford with an amazing overhead kick in the 1999 play-off final. Sam Dalby's effort in 2026 is equally acrobatic.

    Bolton 3-1 Stockport

Bolton have taken the game away from Stockport in this second half.

But that save from Jack Bonham to prevent Tanto Olaofe making it 2-2 looks like being a sliding doors moment.

    Have County got anything left?
