Champions Manchester City ended their Women's Super League campaign on a high, beating West Ham with Khadija Shaw scoring twice, before lifting the trophy.

Having won the competition for the first time since 2016, Andree Jeglertz's side were given a guard of honour by the Hammers players before kick-off and collected the silverware shortly after the end of a comfortable success.

Canada international Jade Rose put them ahead in the 13th minute with her first WSL goal, blasting home from inside the six-yard box after the hosts failed to clear a corner from the left.

Shaw, the WSL's top scorer, doubled City's lead in the 57th minute, finishing well from Aoba Fujino's excellent low cross from the right.

That goal meant the Jamaica striker, who has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea when her contract expires, became the first player in WSL history to reach the 20-goal mark in three different seasons.

It was also her 100th goal involvement in just 93 appearances, with only team-mate Vivianne Miedema reaching the milestone in less matches (83).

West Ham pulled a goal back five minutes later when Seraina Piubel converted from Ffion Morgan's low cross, but Shaw got her second goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute, shooting into the bottom corner.

Former England international Laura Coombs, who will retire at the end of the season following a 19-year career, made it 4-1 with 10 minutes to go as the 35-year-old midfielder's shot took a deflection and looped into the net.

The only downside for City was an ankle injury for England forward Lauren Hemp, who had to be substituted midway through the first half.

City face Brighton in the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, 31 May, with the Lionesses playing an away World Cup qualifier against holders Spain on 5 June.

If this was to be Shaw's last WSL appearance in City colours, it was a fitting way to finish as once again she showed her prolific nature, which has been pivotal in City's championship triumph.

With her 101 WSL goal involvements, consisting of 83 goals and 18 assists, she became only the sixth player to reach the century landmark in the competition's history.

After the victory, the City players went into the dressing room to put on shirts which read 'Champions 26' before coming back out to collect the trophy.

Since last winning the title a decade ago, City have finished second on six occasions and came fourth in 2024-25 before Swede Jeglertz led them to top spot in his debut season.

They finished four points clear of second-placed Arsenal and six in front of Chelsea, whose six-year title dominance came to an end.

Meanwhile, West Ham ended in 10th spot, winning five of their 22 league matches to stave off relegation fears.

Earlier this week, club captain Katrina Gorry announced she was leaving West Ham.

The Australian midfielder, 33, was presented with a bunch of flowers and a framed shirt before the game and received a great reception when she came on as a late substitute.
