Everything seems to be falling into New Zealand's lap. They've earned the right to do it. You've got to go again and hope you can force a mistake and then jump in again.

New Zealand continue to dominate the game and they're right in control here.

  7. New Zealand 94-2 at teapublished at 25 overs

    Timothy Abraham
    BBC Sport

Rachin Ravindra plays a stout defensive shot to the final ball of the session from Sonny Baker.

    That's tea.

England had a bit of hope after some early wickets but New Zealand have wrestled back control.

This seems a good time to hand over to Mike Peter. What's WinViz saying, Mike?

  8. NZ 94-2published at 24.5 overs

    Lead by 194

Sonny Baker with the final over before tea.

He's short to Rachin Ravindra with his fifth ball and the Kiwi climbs on to his tip toes then crunches it it four.

    Nice shot.

Relatively nonthreatening over from Jofra Archer with Henry Nicholls able to jab one off the back foot for four from the final delivery of the over.

  11. NZ 86-2published at 23 overs

    Lead by 186

Rachin Ravindra carves Sonny Baker through the covers for four.

Worryingly for England, Jordan Cox is limping a little bit after an attempt to stop it on the fence and loosing his footing.

Anyway, it looks like we are going to have a short burst of Jofra Archer with a few minutes to go until the tea interval.

New Zealand have got a wonderful chance. I think we sensed that yesterday when Matt Henry got those two quick wickets. It hasn't been plain sailing but they've gradually nailed down their advantage.

    5. Joe Root - 73
  14. NZ 81-2published at 22 overs

Henry Nicholls contrives back-to-back fours off Joe Root.

The first is a chip back over Root's head before a biffs a drive beyond mid-off.

  15. NZ 72-2published at 21 overs

A maiden from Sonny Baker attempts to keep the pressure on New Zealand's batters as we head towards tea.

  16. NZ 72-2published at 20 overs

    Lead by 172

A tight over from Joe Root.

The England skipper, bowling round the wicket, strikes Henry Nicholls on the pad as he defends.

There's an appeal, but no review. Nicholls got some bat on that.

It's not as consistently erratic as Lord's but that was as bad as anything we saw at Lord's. That's unplayable. If that was straight, that's all over.

  19. NZ 70-2published at 19 overs

A pea roller from Josh Tongue as some iffy bounce in the pitch at The Oval draws some nervous looks.

It lands on a length from Tongue but skids through along the turf which leaves Rachin Ravindra awkwardly attempting to dig it out.

Ravindra's mindset not affected, though, as he pings a drive beyond the dive of Jofra Archer at mid-off for four from Tongue's next ball.

I don't actually know what Rachin Ravindra is doing. This is the first over by a spinner that he's faced. It looked ugly the whole stroke really, I don't think he really he needs to be loft at this stage in a game where New Zealand aren't safe here yet.
