Bex (Tina O'Brien) confronts Karen (Amanda Burton) with the truth about her disappearance
Bex (Tina O'Brien) confronts Karen (Amanda Burton) with the truth about her disappearance

The truth surrounding Bex's disappearance is finally revealed when a fellow pupil discovers a shocking secret, as the series set in a Rochdale comprehensive school continues. It sends shockwaves throughout Waterloo Road and tests Tom's recovery when he's forced to deal with the aftermath. Elsewhere, Sam and Finn's mutual antagonism develops in an unexpected way, and Jonah gives Cesca a dramatic ultimatum.

Bex finally confronts Karen with the truth surrounding her disappearance when Wayne Bodley, a Year 11 pupil, stumbles across a compromising video of her and spreads the footage around the school. It couldn't be a worse time for Bex, as she prepares her speech on the day of the head pupil elections, and it's left to a still-fragile Tom to get to the bottom of Wayne's behaviour.

Matters become even more complicated when Bex discovers the true identity of Jess's new boyfriend, prompting a reluctant decision to run away from home yet again.

Meanwhile, Finn is intent on being a good mentor to Denzil, despite Sam assuming the worst, leading to the beginnings of an unexpected relationship when she finally realises that he is being genuine.

And Jonah is becoming increasingly frustrated with Cesca's secrecy and issues an ultimatum – either they start acting like a real couple or it's over.

Bex is played by Tina O'Brien, Tom by Jason Done, Sam by Holly Kenny, Finn by Jack McMullen, Jonah by Lucien Laviscount, Cesca by Karen David, Karen by Amanda Burton, Wayne by Qasim Akhtar and Jess by Linzey Cocker.

Waterloo Road is simulcast in HD on BBC One HD on Freesat channel 108, Freeview channel 50, Sky channel 143 and Virgin Media channel 108.

Gregg Wallace and John Torode put the remaining amateur cooks under more pressure
Gregg Wallace and John Torode put the remaining amateur cooks under more pressure

After four weeks of intense culinary competing, only the nine most talented amateur cooks remain in the battle to become this year's MasterChef champion.

In tonight's show, MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace apply the pressure, asking the nine amateurs to step up to the fire and fury of their first professional service. They all dream of becoming professional but the reality hits home as they try to cope with the pressure of cooking under top chefs at leading London restaurants for the paying public. Split between Corrigan's in Mayfair, Suka at The Sanderson, and Brasserie Joel at the Park Plaza, the heat is on for all nine of them as head chefs scrutinise each and every quenelle. Who will sink and who will swim in the heat of lunch service?

Then, back at the MasterChef kitchen, the contestants must open their culinary minds to the instinctive, sense-based cooking approach of Michelin-starred master Alexis Gauthier, as they face an invention test with a difference. Stripped of their sight they are asked to rely on their natural instincts to select three ingredients. They then have to cook a great dish using those ingredients in one hour for Alexis and the judges to taste.

The three who show the least flair and ability to trust their instincts will have to cook off against each other to save their MasterChef lives. This time the pressure mounts further as they must step up to making one of Alexis's signature dishes using his touch – and instinct-based approach. With no timers or measuring equipment in the MasterChef kitchen, the stakes are higher than ever as any slip-ups could mean the end of their journey.

Only the best cooks will go on for a chance to become Masterchef champion 2011.

Royal Upstairs Downstairs – Harewood House Ep 3/5

Monday 7 to Friday 11 March
6.30-7.00pm BBC TWO

In September 1835, the 16-year-old Princess Victoria visited Harewood House in picturesque Yorkshire – but what went on behind the scenes as the household prepared for the Royal party? That's the question Tim Wonnacott and Rosemary Shrager are looking to answer in today's episode of the series.

Upstairs, Tim looks into the art and architecture in the house. The Head of House and Collections, Anna Robinson, shows him an ornate travelling writing set which was given to the Queen later in her life. He also visits the local church on the estate, which the Princess attended for Sunday service during her stay. There, he recounts how the Earl invited the Archbishop to read the sermon because it was feared that a sermon by the local vicar could be too offensive for the young princess to hear!

Downstairs, Rosemary teams up with food historian Ivan Day to prepare a typical 19th-century dish that could easily have formed part of the banquet served to the Royal party: an elaborate asparagus and pastry crust dish which would have been served alongside other dessert dishes. Using a traditional copper dish, as a reaction between the copper and the asparagus brings out the colour in the vegetable, making it greener, it is then arranged upright in a pastry mould engraved with an ornate flower design.
