Bluefin tuna are one of the ocean's top predators. These warm-blooded fish can weigh as much as a grand piano. Ten years ago, sightings were very rare. Now they come to the UK in their thousands in the late summer and autumn.

WWF says the turnaround proves targeted conservation efforts can work. It points to the recovery of tigers, green turtles and African elephants as other examples of success. But these are the exceptions, the charity warns. It estimates the thousands of wildlife populations it monitors around the world have fallen by an average of 73% since 1970.
