Match Reports

TCFC

Thornton Cleveleys JFC

It was a fab week for Thornton Cleveleys - the U16s fought back from 2-0 down to keep their Lancashire hopes alive and the U15s Girls won 6-1.

WEST LANCASHIRE GIRLS LEAGUE

UNDER 15s:Thornton Cleveleys 6 Goldborne Girls 1

Thornton started well but were caught out on the break and went behind to the visitors. Leah H then scored a class goal to bring the teams level, and Chelsea W gave Thornton the lead. Thornton then took control of the game. The Golbourne keeper pulled off a tremendous save from Tamara F before Phillipa R and Sally P gave Thornton a 4-1 lead at half time.

After the break Golbourne defended deep as Thornton continued to attack and Leanne B gave an excellent performance in midfield. Golbourne were always dangerous on the break, but Jade T and Natasha I gave solid performances to deny Golbourne chances.

Chelsea W completed her hat trick with two well taken goals, and Natasha F gave an outstanding display. Goalkeeper Rachael S denied Golbourne with a fine save in the last minutes of the game. The game was played in very good sporting spirit, and this was a good team performance by Thornton.

LANCASHIRE CUP

TCFC U16s 3-2 Walney

What a performance form TCFC. 2-0 down at half time they were dead and buried. Well that's what all the Walney players and spectators thought. But TCFC gave a second half performance that showed exactly what this squad are made of.

The first half TCFC had all the possession but could not find the net. Credit to Walney's attack even though they only had two attacks in the first half they scored them both and TCFC looked poor at the back with Chris S missing due to holiday commitments but the transformation in the second half was staggering.

TCFC started the second half brightly and a superb flighted cross by John At saw James P on his debut score the first. The game then changed and the confidenece in the Walney players seemed to go.

However, a mistake at the back gave Walney a penalty and saw John A red carded for preventing a goal scoring opportunity. It all looked over for TCFC now down to ten men, however, a brilliant save by Steve Wilson the TCFC keeper from the spot kick gave them belief. The equaliser came from Dane E with a bullet of a right foot shot that only he can strike and gave the Walney keeper no chance and the game looked like it was going into extra time.

Then up strolled Mat W who hit a superb shot against the bar and Adam R was in the right position to head home the rebound. The players and all the TCFC supporters celebrated in style when the final whistle came.

Credit once again to the Walney players and officials who despite the disappointment were gracious in defeat. Man of the match was a difficult decision but was eventually awarded to Cal F who changed the game when he came on as sub and bossed the mid field. But credit must be given to Adam R who was inspirational in midfield and his never give up attitude rubbed off on all the other squad players.

WELL DONE LADS YOU WERE GREAT!
