Thornton Cleveleys JFC

All the goings on at Thornton Cleveleys Football Club...

U11s in the North Valleys Girls League:T.C.F.C U11s Girls (A) 9-0 Rossendale United Girls

Another fabulous football display from a TCFC team full of confidence. Rossendale Utd are a newly formed team and found it difficult to cope with TCFC passing and movement, although they can take encouragement from the game because if it wasn't for some great goal-keeping it could have been a cricket score.

TCFC's goalkeeper, Samantha, had nothing to do for the entire game. From the first minute TCFC were on the attack. Hannah G provided crosses of the highest quality and if the TCFC players would be willing to throw themselves at them there would have been some superb goals. The first goal came from a super corner by Hannah G, converted on the volley, by Saffron Q with her left foot!

The second goal was a carbon copy, converted again by Saffy. TCFC third was a great low drive into the corner by Laura I who had another quality game. TCFC fourth was a fantastic finish by Hannah after going past a couple of defenders and firing the ball home. Hannah then got the fifth and her second with a great shot from outside the box into the roof of the net.

Saffy then got her hat-trick with a great run and shot from outside the box that flew past the keeper into the bottom corner. Danielle J was on the score-sheet this week with a great shot from the edge of the box, again unstoppable from a short corner from Hannah. Saffy got her fourth of the game with five minutes remaining and Megan E who played the last five upfront converted another corner from Hannah to get her first of the season. Lauren C came on as sub for Sophie and contributed well to the team performance. MOM went to Danielle for her fantastic distribution from the back although there were many contenders, Hannah and Saffy could have walked away with it as well Laura. Sophie K played her part and worked hard but should have scored on two or three occasions. An all round great performance and with TCFC yet to concede a goal this season, the excitement is building!

Barnoldswick Barons U12 0-0 Thornton Wanderers Girls U12s

Thornton travelled the long journey for their first meeting with Barnoldswick this season. Expecting a tough physical challenge they were not disappointed. The Wanderers started with determination with tough tackling from Lauren F and Catherine R. Barnoldswick were dangerous on the break calling upon defenders Vicki L and Lottie W to intercept frequently. Rebecca L made several good breaks and runs up the centre to be stopped by a solid Barnoldswick defence. The small goal nets on such a large pitch limited scoring opportunities for both teams. The Wanderers first real opportunity came in the 10th minute when Lauren F's shot was denied by the keeper. They persevered and created good passing sequences despite difficult pitch conditions. Emily H produced some stunning runs in attack and then dropping back in defence covering the right wing. The Wanderers found themselves defending frequently in the first half losing possession in midfield. Keeper Bethany L dealt with any threats with ease. Chloe H did well to catch up with a Barnoldswick forwards attacking run and deny her the opportunity to shoot in the 22nd minute. The Wanderers missed a definite scoring opportunity in the 28th minute when Catherine R was intercepted in front of an open goal. She then tried again a minute later but her shot was saved. Barnoldswick made a last chance attempt to score before half time but keeper Luckett came off her line to claim the ball.

The second half commenced much the same as the first with even play and both teams fighting to gain an advantage. Rebecca L broke away again in the 33rd minute running the full length of the pitch but her shot was forced wide. Emily H also broke free soon after running the length of the pitch, her shot also passed wide. Several stoppages in the second half for injuries interrupted the flow of play but allowed the Wanderers to take on vital fluids as the temperature rose. The Wanderers won four successive corners but were unable to convert them. Sarah F joined the defence and blocked a Barnoldswick attack almost immediately. Again the Wanderers failed to capitalise on a scoring opportunity in the 42nd minute. Megan L joined the game in left midfield. Vicki L continued to prove invaluable in defence providing clearances and winning possession. Catherine R was unlucky to see her shot pass wide in the 50th minute. Megan L provided a series of long throws into the Barnoldswick area but they could not find their way into the net. The Wanderers came under pressure and defended well when Barnoldswick won a trio of corners. Bethany L produced a fine save in the 57th minute to keep a clean sheet. The Wanderers almost earned a late win when Rebecca L beat the Barnoldswick defence but her shot was saved in the 59th minute. Injury time extended the game by a further 5 minutes with the Wanderers dominating but the game remained a draw.

Player of the match:

Rebecca Lowe. She produced several stunning runs and scoring opportunities.

West Lancashire League:U15s Girls

THORNTON CLEVELEYS 10 CROSBY STUART 2

Rachel W opened the scoring for Thornton in the first minute with a superb goal, but Crosby fought back and equalised five minutes later. Rachel W again gave Thornton the lead, and Thornton controlled the game up to the break, and further goals from Chelsea W and Sally P.
After the break Crosby closed Thornton down quicker, restricting Thornton to fewer chances, and Crosby pulled a goal back. Leah H went close for Thornton before Phillipa R scored with a tricky run down the left flank. Natasha F gave an excellent performance, and Tamara F showed outstanding pace on the right. Defenders Jade T and Chloe S were in control in defence, and Natasha I and Leanne B combined well to cause a constant threat to Crosby. Further goals from Sally P and Chelsea W gave Thornton a 10-2 result at the final whistle.

This was a good all round team performance and was played in good sporting spirit.

Lancashire Girls League:T.C.F.C U16s Girls 8-2 Morecambe Girls U16s

Brilliant performance by everyone and an outstanding performance by MOM Melissa B on scoring 7 goals. After scoring in the first minute the girls never looked back our other goal came from Jasmine Q who after beating 3 players scored from a very tight angle at the near post. A good squad performance from substitutes Sharni W, Sophie T, Kirsty S and a good debut for Sara R...well done girls!
