When night falls in Dakar, Sufi Islamic spiritual chants known as zikr infuse the air.
Young Baay Fall, followers of the spiritual leader Cheikh Ibrahima Fall, congregate and celebrate their faith with passionate calls to their guide, singing and chanting his name during all night vigils, hoping to share in the spiritual grace that flows from the creator to human beings.
One of those followers is Carlou D, an outspoken singer, songwriter and guitarist who emerged from Senegal's exciting 90's hip-hop scene.
It is from this spiritual sect that Carlou takes much of his musical inspiration.
His debut album Muzikr was launched in London this week so he came into our studios and spoke to BBC Network Africa's Audrey Brown.
