Bohemians 0-1 Derry City
Derry City manager Stephen Kenny
Stephen Kenny's side have won their two opening league games
Mark Farren's first half goal earned Derry City a deserved 1-0 win over Bohemians in Friday's Eircom League clash at Dalymount Park.

Derry could have been 3-0 ahead by the time Farren by drilled the ball past Matt Gregg in the 38th minute.

Farren and Gareth McGlynn had further Derry chances in the second half while Bohs' only decent effort was a Stephen Ward shot saved by David Forde.

Derry have maximum points after two games - one behind leaders Cork.

Early on, Bohs left-back Dessie Byrne was yellow-carded for a heavy challenge on Gary Beckett in the eighth minute.

After a dour opening 19 minutes, Derry's Alan Murphy shot straight at Bohs goalkeeper Matt Gregg from the edge of the Bohs area.

As Derry began to boss the game, the lively Beckett hooked a right-footed effort just over the home cross bar on 24 minutes.

His strike partner Mark Farren should have put the visitors ahead four minutes later when he rounded keeper Gregg, but he pulled his shot across the face of goal.

At the other end, Derry goalkeeper Forde stood up well to collect James Keddy's deflected shot.

Farren made up for his earlier miss by sprinting clear of the Bohs defence and drilling the ball past Gregg in the 38th minute after a good through ball from Beckett.

The goalscorer had a chance to extend Derry's lead seconds after the interval but Farren lost control after rounding Gregg and fired wide.

Bohs almost drew level midway through second half but Stephen Ward's shot was parried by Forde and Eddie McCallion completed the clearance.

Farren played through Gareth McGlynn on 87 minutes, but the substitute failed to hold his run sufficiently and was ruled offside.
