I feel like Medvedev really beat himself out there. That was a very disappointing performance from him. I don't know what was going on with all of those drop shots - it was an obsession and stubborness with 'I'm going to win this match by playing drop shots' and they weren't working.

  2. Norrie on serve in first setpublished at 13:41 BST

    *Norrie 2-3 Vallejo

A couple of aces from Adolfo Daniel Vallejo help the Paraguayan to another hold of serve in the early stages of this one.

The series of straightforward holds of serve at the start of this match continue as Cameron Norrie responds but again can't get close to his opponent in the following game.

A thoroughly deserved win for Walton. I really enjoyed watching his tennis, I loved watching his attitude and the way he rolled the dice, went for it and played the more aggressive tennis. He was brave when it really mattered in the key moments today.

A big upset on Court Suzanne-Lenglen as for the second year in a row, Daniil Medvedev has lost in five sets in the first round of the French Open.

A double fault from Medvedev gives wild card Adam Walton three match points.

And sixth seed Medvedev hits a wild shot on the first to hand Australian Walton the biggest win of his career.

It's the seventh time Medvedev has lost in the opening round of the French Open.

  5. Norrie holds servepublished at 13:34 BST

    Norrie 1-1 Vallejo*

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo has an opportunity to put early pressure on Cameron Norrie at 0-30, but he can't capitalise on that position.

The British number one restores parity with a forehand winner, and makes it four points in a row to get his first game on the board.

Walton is such a brave player. I've enjoyed his spirit this match and the way he's trying to take out such a big name in the world of tennis.

  7. Medvedev serving to stay in matchpublished at 13:32 BST

    *Medvedev 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-1 4-5 Walton

Daniil Medvedev is upping his count of dropshots but wild card Adam Walton is chasing down everything.

The sixth seed has three break points but the Australian just won't lie down, and holds to move within one game of victory.

    *Norrie 0-1 Vallejo

And that is a solid enough first service game from Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, who holds firm from 30-30 to get up and running against Cameron Norrie.

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo is a former top-ranked junior player, who broke into the world top 100 in March.

The 22-year-old is the first Paraguayan man to play at a Grand Slam since 2010 Wimbledon - and is serving first as he seeks to become the first to win a Grand Slam match since 2003, and at Roland Garros for 28 years.

Cameron Norrie has not practised at Roland Garros amid his race to be fullyfit for his first-round match against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.

The British number one admitted this week that it might have been a mistake not to retire during his Geneva Open defeat by Argentina's Mario Navone on Wednesday.

"It is a small problem with my rib. I overdid it with the preparation and not listening to my body and my mind," Norrie told BBC Sport.

"I probably should have retired. I kept pushing because I had never retired before in a match in my career, so I wasn't sure what to do.

"But I'm here. Luckily I'm scheduled on Tuesday, so it gives me some time to get ready."

I wonder if the heat has been helping Adam Walton because he is in possession of a massive serve and at times he's been able to find his mark with that in this clash.

Medvedev was actually quite irritable because of the heat in the opening set but it has rocked back and forth and now we're in the fifth.

  12. Medvedev pegged back againpublished at 13:21 BST

    Medvedev 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-1 4-4 Walton*

OK, so we're seeing yet another momentum switch in this match.

It looked like sixth seed Daniil Medvedev had finally got a grip of things in the final set but wild card Adam Walton will not lie down.

The Australian manages to break back - and promptly tries to orchestrate some support from the crowd, wildly pumping his arms up and down.

  13. Norrie up nextpublished at 13:15 BST

    Norrie v Vallejo

We'll soon have British number one Cameron Norrie in action on court 13.

He is set for a first meeting with Paraguay's Adolfo Daniel Vallejo to begin his ninth appearance at Roland Garros, having reached the second round in five of his previous eight appearances.

Norrie managed a career-best run to the fourth round in 2025, however a rib injury has hampered his preparations for this year's tournament.

  15. Walton hanging on in fifthpublished at 13:07 BST

    *Medvedev 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-1 3-2 Walton

Daniil Medvedev is looking like a man on a mission here, racing through his service game, and then coming up with a couple of beautiful backhands down the line on Adam Walton's serve.

The sixth seed is controlling the points now - a double break would surely mean match over, but Australian wild card Walton fends off two break points to hang on in the fifth set.

  16. Medvedev breaks early in fifthpublished at 12:58 BST

    *Medvedev 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-1 2-0 Walton

Daniil Medvedev is still standing yards behind the baseline to take Adam Walton's serve, but the sixth seed has upped his intensity and earns three break points.

He needs just one, and makes the first strike in the deciding set.

  17. Will Norrie and Fearnley join Jones and Boulter in round two?published at 12:57 BST

    Two Britons out, two through.

Will Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley join Fran Jones and Katie Boulter in the second round - or will they suffer the same fate as Emma Raducanu and Toby Samuel?

Norrie is the only Briton to be seeded at this year's Roland Garros and he will be taking on Paraguay's Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, who is ranked 71st in the world.

The match before his is into a fourth set - but hopefully there's not too long to wait now.

Fearnley, meanwhile, is up against Argentina's world number 56 Juan Manuel Cerundolo a bit later on.

Well, the French fans will rightly begin to get very, very excited about teenager Moise Kouame after that performance.

    Cilic 6-7 (4-7) 2-6 1-6 Kouame

What a moment over on Court Simonne Mathieu!

French teenager Moise Kouame has been delighting the home crowd over the past two-and-a-half hours with his efforts against former US Open champion Marin Cilic.

Contesting the first Grand Slam match of his career, the 17-year-old wildcard has just made history.

Completing a straight-set win, the youngest man to play in the Roland Garros main draw since 2009 has just become the youngest man to win a Grand Slam match since the 2009 Australian Open.

He is the youngest man to reach the second round at the French Open since in 34 years - and the youngest Frenchman to win a match at the event since 1980.

  20. Medvedev forces fifth setpublished at 12:46 BST

    Medvedev 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-1 0-0 Walton*

It's going to be a one-set shootout between sixth seed Daniil Medvedev and world number 97 Adam Walton.

Medvedev has been incredibly inconsistent so far today but finds some big serves as he clinches the fourth set 6-1, and then leaves the court for a comfort break.

The momentum has continually swung from one player to the other in this match - who is going to seize it in the final set?
