Blaze 32-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

Nearly! Sophie Turner can't quite reach Tammy Beaumont's aerial shot. It goes for four.

Blaze score 14 off the over as Trudy Johnson sees a leg side delivery go for three wides. That's now seven extras already in the innings.

It just feels like The Blaze are rather cruising it here.

  4. Postpublished at 3 overs

Blaze 18-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

A swing and a miss from Sarah Bryce but she lifts the next ball over the close fielders for the second boundary of the innings behind point.

Lauren Filer, stretching in search of a badly needed wicket, bowls two more leg side wides. Seven off the over.

Early days but Blaze look in control

  5. 'Durham need a breakthrough'published at 20:30 BST

Blaze 11-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

    Durham need a breakthrough.

Swing and a miss are fine, dot balls are fine but they need wickets if they are to stand a chance of beating The Blaze.

  6. Postpublished at 2 overs

Blaze 11-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

A decent over from Trudy Johnson who induces a couple of false shots out of Tammy Beaumont.

But Durham have yet to get the early wickets they need. Three runs off that over.

  7. 'The ball is really flying out there'published at 20:23 BST

Blaze 8-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

This is hard new ball and it's really flying out there.

The sun has gone down now but it's still pretty warm.

  8. Postpublished at 1 over

Blaze 8-0 chasing 118 to beat Durham

Lauren Filer bowls two wides and Sarah Bryce ends the first over with a boundary run down to third.

Blaze can afford to be patient, They know scoring runs on this Oval pitch is hard work but they'll back themselves to chase down this modest target.

  9. Durham need a record-breaking defencepublished at 0.1 over

Sarah Bryce and Tammy Beaumont open the batting as Blaze aim to keep hopes of a Nottinghamshire Blast double alive. The men head for Edgbaston for their Finals Day tomorrow. Bryce lets the first ball from Lauren Filer go.

Durham captain Hollie Armitage, who led the Northern Superchargers to glory in the Hundred final last summer, has her work cut out here. No team has successfully defended a total as low as this in a 20 over game in the first years of the women's Blast.

Blaze will hope they don't pay for some dropped chances. Their ground fielding during the Durham innings was good...their catching less so.

The Blaze have been set a target of 118 to win the T20 Blast of 2026.

I think they'll be confident of getting that.

    Durham 117-8 v The Blaze

A low total but who knows whether that might be enough.

The gut feeling is that The Blaze performed very well with the ball and Durham failed to break the shackles with the bat.

Kirstie Gordon finishes with 3-21 and Charli Knott with 2-25 but Grace Ballinger and Josie Groves also bowled very well.

Durham's Heather Graham top scored with 30 and Grace Thompson and Emily Windsor joined for 40 lower down the order for the sixth wicket.

Enough? We will find out in 10 minutes or so.

  12. wicket

Johnson run out 1 (Durham 117-8 v The Blaze)

Last ball and a swing, a miss and a shy from Sarah Bryce at the non strikers' end which sees Trudy Johnson run out.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.3 overs

    Windsor c Elwiss b Knott 20 (Durham 114-7 v The Blaze)

Charli Knott has a second in three deliveries as a full pitched ball is toe ended to Georgia Elwiss in the ring at cover.

That is 27 wickets in the Blast for Knott who looks unlikely to be caught in that table.

  14. wicket

    Thompson st S Bryce b Knott 20 (Durham 113-6 v The Blaze)

Lovely piece of bowling from Charli Knott who sees Grace Thompson coming and pulls the delivery right back.

Turn and a smart take from Sarah Bryce does the rest.

  15. Postpublished at 19 overs

    Durham 113-5 v The Blaze

Grace Ballinger taking pace off the ball has made that over difficult to get away and the boundaries continue to prove elusive.

That was a superb over despite it going for seven, capped with a slower ball full toss that Emily Windsor cannot do anything with beyond nudging it for a single.

  16. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Durham 106-5 v The Blaze

Grace Thompson somehow only gets a single from a majestic shot towards the extra cover boundary as Emma Jones gathers from long off.

That is poor with the batter standing and admiring rather than belting through for two.

Emily Windsor and Thompson learn the lessons, scuttling through for a well run two on the final delivery.

Kathryn Bryce's over goes for seven. Too little too late?

  17. 'Thompson really got hold of that'published at 19:53 BST

    Durham 99-5 v The Blaze

    Isabelle Duncan
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Grace Thompson really got hold of that. That's come out of the meat of the bat.

  18. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Durham 99-5 v The Blaze

Big stride forward and Grace Thompson reaches forward to sweep Josie Groves to the midwicket boundary.

    Nice.

And she follows up with another boundary punched through point as Durham's innings gets some momentum at last.

A good over for Durham with 13 runs coming from it.

  19. Postpublished at 16 overs

    Durham 86-5 v The Blaze

Tough chance for Georgia Elwiss diving forward at extra cover but a chance nonetheless.

Charli Knott does not get the wicket of Grace Thompson but she keeps the tap tightly shut.

Thompson has six from 10 deliveries and connects nicely with a sweep shot on the final delivery only to find a fielder.

It has been the story of the Durham innings.

  20. 'Windsor is crucial for Durhampublished at 19:49 BST

    Durham 80-5 v The Blaze

    Dominic James
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Emily Windsor is crucial for Durham here. It's a good start with a brilliant four to begin her innings.

Can she be the Durham hero this time with the bat? They certainly need her.
