[Charles Leclerc] has to go long. Basically he has to wait for everyone to do their stops before he comes in to do his one.

Charles is comfortably in the lead but I saw him going into Turn One and he had a bit of a drift going into Turn One as he put the lock on, we will be wanting to see how long his tyres are going to last. They should have a good few laps in them. When you have used tyres they don't seem to fire up quite as quickly as the new tyres.

    Lap 13/71

The stewards have delivered their verdict, and it's a five-second time penalty for Charles Leclerc for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

George Russell was also under the spotlight for his contact with Isack Hadjar. The stewards' decision on that one is a 10-second penalty for the Mercedes man for causing a collision.

Leclerc leads, Russell is in fifth.

Fed up with Leclerc’s lack of team discipline. Ferrari need to get rid of one or the other of their drivers.

Max Verstappen has called into to say he's not got the best grip on these medium tyres. Over at McLaren, Lando Norris is told Plan A is probably the way to go.

For Oscar Piastri, who was knocked out in Q2 yesterday, he's made his way into the points and up to seventh.

Charles Leclerc ran off the track and clearly gained a massive advantage. Not only did he hold his position having got around the outside of Lewis Hamilton, you can even argue that he made the overtake off the race track. The stewards will frown upon that.

    Lap 11/71

Charles Leclerc has increased his gap to Max Verstappen to about two seconds over Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who opted to. start on medium at lights out.

Charles has been making noise all day long about how difficult it was going to be to pass. He had in his mind that you absolutely have to get to the front of the race and he has got himself in the front but he might have incurred this penalty.

The problem is you can't instigate an instruction for a guy at Ferrari to fall back behind Max Verstappen. Isn't he supposed to fall back behind Lewis?

    Lap 9/71

The virtual safety car is cleared and we're racing again in Mexico. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli is closing in on Lewis Hamilton, who is on used soft tyres. The Italian would love a podium to cap off his championship-winning (as it stands) weekend.

Turn Four was the flashpoint for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, which is still under investigation by the stewards. The Monegasque driver was on the outside of Hamilton and both end up off the track.

George Russell fell apart at lights out, and the Mercedes driver also made contact with Isack Hadjar's Red Bull, sending the Frenchman spinning out and down to the back of the field.

It's turned into a miserable day for Aston Martin, who now ask Fernando Alonso's team-mate Lance Stroll to pull over and stop the car. The Canadian does as he's told, and the virtual safety car is deployed.

Charles Leclerc leads, Max Verstappen is 1.2 seconds behind and Lewis Hamilton, who started on pole, is third.

Ferrari are not going to be pleased in asking the stewards to look into the challenge there on the Ferraris because if they give a penalty to Charles, then Max is in the front of the race.

  17. Postpublished at 20:10 GMT

    Lap 4/71

The stewards think the Charles Leclerc-Lewis Hamilton intra-team battle needs investigating. The seven-time world champion then comes on the radio to ask his pit wall what's going on?

Lando Norris also lost out during the first-lap tussles but now the world champion is up to seventh place after overtaking Franco Colapinto.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli is fourth.

We said it was going to be chaos and that is exactly what happened. But it was the two Ferraris going wheel to wheel, they didn't give each other an inch. Lewis Hamilton, I'm sure will be furious with his team-mate, they pushed each other all around the outside.
