    Pirelli suggest there's half a second pace difference between the medium ans soft tyres so that's a very good showing from Max Verstappen who is just two tenths behind Lewis Hamilton on the softs.

    Red Bull and McLaren quite close in pace, Ferrari probably a little further back and Mercedes ahead.

  4. All change at the top now as Lewis Hamilton, on softs, goes fastest with a 1:45.093. Charles Leclerc is second quickest, two tenths back.

    Red Bull's Max Verstappen is third, also two tenths off Hamilton's time but his has been set on mediums.

    George Russell is fourth quickest on mediums, just 0.05s slower than Verstappen.

  5. Kimi Antonelli and George Russell are both on mediums and go third and fourth fastest respectively.

    There's a brief wave of the yellow flags as Pierre Gasly goes off.

  6. Arvid Lindblad reports that grip is "super low", which may be because of the stronger wind the drivers are having to contend with today.

    The McLaren mechanics were just checking that the permanent fixes they made to Lando Norris's car had stuck overnight to sort those reliability issues they had during FP1 and FP2 yesterday.

  8. Lewis Hamilton briefly topped the timesheet but he's been nudged off by team-mate Charles Leclerc, who does a 1:45.564, six tenths quicker than Hamilton.

    Mercedes were keen to practise a double stack when they came into the pits in case of a safety car or VSC in the race.

  10. McLaren have brought some major upgrades here, but they had a troublesome day yesterday with issues for both drivers.

    Lando Norris went back in after his out-lap, but Oscar Piastri is staying out there on mediums. Norris was on softs.

    The Mercedes seems to be in a very, very good place.

  12. The Mercedes and Ferraris are out on track now as the session starts to get busy.

  13. Pierre Gasly improves at the top of the timesheet with a 1:47.714 set on mediums.

    Liam Lawson is second quickest, six tenths off Gasly's time.

  14. We're almost 15 minutes into the session and still waiting for some of the front runners to emerge.

  15. Pierre Gasly sets the early pace with 1:50.582. He's 1.3s quicker than his team-mate Franco Colapinto.

  16. We're up to six drivers out and about now. Both Alpines have medium tyres on but the rest who have joined them are on softs.

    It's a very dirty dusty track, it'll clean up and speed up as the session goes on and it will be the same in qualifying

  18. Franco Colapinto is also out on the circuit, which has gathered a few leaves overnight. The other drivers will be waiting for more of them to clear before heading out themselves.

    The Ferrari drivers weren't really complaining of anything in particular yesterday, they didn't have any major problems, they just weren't quick enough. They haven't brought any upgrades this weekend and some of the teams around them certainly have - some major ones up and down the grid. Perhaps there's a bit of performance in the other teams stepping forward.
