Good stuff in that session with the times tumbling down as the track at Zandvoort slowly began to dry out.

On softs he goes fastest with a 1:13.105, having battled with some traffic too.

Just 0.034 seconds separates him and Lewis Hamilton.

Nico Hulkenberg's just barged his way into the party here with a 1:13.784 and goes fourth fastest in his Audi on the medium tyre, no less.

His team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto's just gone sixth fastest, also on a set of mediums.

Two purple sectors for Lewis Hamilton and he's replaced his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in P1.

His 1:13.139 is 0.208 seconds than Leclerc. Is that the best we'll see in this session?

With Sprint Qualifying coming up, it's no surprise that plenty of other drives have deployed some softs as the end of this session approaches.

Oscar Piastri goes fastest with a 1:13.608 but Charles Leclerc moves back to the top of the tree with a 1:13.347.

Eh up.

Ferrari have sent Charles Leclerc out with a set of softs on.

11 minutes left in the session. Can he top his 1:14.146? That's already the fastest time of the session so far.

Liam Lawson is currently sitting 10th, about half a second between himself and Max Verstappen, both on the hard tyre. That's respectable at this point.

He's not trying to break records at this phase of the weekend. The worst thing he can do in this session is to put the car in the wall.

Sprint weekends are unforgiving. Later on we've got sprint qualifying and you can't afford to give the team a huge amount of damage to repair off the back of this practice session.

That banked corner at turn 13's causing a bit of havoc today with the conditions as they are.

Max Verstappens just gone off there but not in quite as dramatic a fashion as Carlos Sainz earlier on.

Of course Yuki Tsunoda's made a surprise return to action this weekend thanks to the shuffling about in the aftermath of Isack Hadjar's wrist injury.

Hadjar is in attendance at the track today, in fact. Liam Lawson, who's stepped into his Red Bull for the weekend, is 10th fastest with Tsunoda 14th in the Racing Bulls right now.

So the medium is the tyre of choice up and down the paddock.

Of the outliers, Pierre Gasly in ninth has done 16 laps on a set of hards and Carlos Sainz, right at the back, did 13 laps on a set of softs...including his off, of course.

We've got just over 20 minutes left in the session and things haven't changed a great deal in the top 10 of late.

Lando Norris guides his McLaren into a time of 1:14.724, five tenths down on leader Charles Leclerc and fifth fastest.

Carlos Sainz is having a torrid time at the moment. He can't get the car slowed down, he's snatching brakes and locking tyres at almost every big stop.

Engineer: "We have damage on the floor. Expecting 20 points loss."

Sainz: "Since when? Since the gravel?"

Engineer: "Affirm."

Williams have just come over the radio to tell Carlos Sainz that there's some damage to the floor of his car.

That came in the aftermath of his off at the penultimate corner earlier.

He's 21st as things stand.
