    He has hit the barriers and broken the front wing of his car.

    His front right wheel looks like it clipped the barriers which sent his car spinning and into the barriers.

    The fastest first sector of anyone is actually Nico Hulkenberg for Audi. Ferrari have the legs in the middle sector over anybody else. The driver who is closest to them is Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

    So Ferrari are working well in that middle sector, but then they are lacking something on those tighter, 90-degree corners in the final sector.

    We've had an update from the FIA, which isn't really much of an update. It just says, "session will resume shortly after completion of barrier repair". So let's hope "shortly" is in the next 30 seconds or so, because we are already well over time.

    Make no mistake, Madring is a street circuit: part public roads, part purpose built. And it feels intense to stand on the track, let alone drive it, with the walls on either side appearing to close in on you. And that lack of width, on the eye at least, suggests overtaking will be virtually impossible.

    "From a driver's point of view it's quite a harsh circuit," says an excited Luis Garcia Abad. "Twenty-two corners, up and down, banking corners - the circuit is adapted to the new [F1] regulations.

    "I spoke with Charles Leclerc and he said it was an amazing track, and in the race I believe you will have the opportunity to overtake, but not by free. We're talking about gladiators – the best drivers in the world."

    The corner everyone in F1 is talking about when discussing this race is Turn 12 - 'La Monumental'.

    A 26-degree banked challenge, substantially longer than the one at the Dutch Grand Prix's Zandvoort. Monumental scythes through what will feel like a small town come race day.

    It comes complete with a VIP viewing area that could house the King of Spain and his family and sits, appropriately, like a castle on top of the hill. The corner itself is a difficult structure to walk up, and in 44C heat, the tarmac is impossible to sit on.
