Lynn Wilms scored late to earn Aston Villa a Women's Super League draw at Amex Stadium after dominant Brighton failed to add a second to Gabby George's opener.

Brighton took 25 shots overall, more than they have in any WSL game since the start of their 2024-2025 campaign, but could not increase the advantage secured by George, who scrambled home from a corner in the first half.

The hosts would later rue their wastefulness when Wilms stunned Brighton with a corner which sailed uncontested into the Seagulls' net - Villa's only on-target shot of the game.

With two points apiece, Brighton and Villa end the match where they started - in 10th and 11th in the Women's Super League table - as each side's hunt for a first league win of the campaign continues.

Brighton deserved their lead, scoring from one of the 17 corners they won overall.

In the 31st minute, Villa goalkeeper Akane Okuma parried Caitlin Hayes' headed effort into a dangerous area before Wilms' attempted clearance hit the post and rebounded into George's feet.

Appearing for Brighton for the first time since she signed from Manchester United in August, George took her debut goal emphatically, thumping the ball high into the net from close range.

It was not until just before half time that Villa had their first shot.

Wilms' strike was blocked and her side did not have another until the 89th minute when she took a corner, only their second of the game, which went straight into the net.

Substitute Olivia Garcia had earlier spurned Brighton's best chance to double their lead, running onto a smart ball from Jelena Cankovic and shooting straight at Okuma.

Brighton protested after Wilms' corner found the net, as the home goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie appeared to be obstructed by players from both sides.

But, handed an opportunity to put things right in injury time, the Seagulls lacked a clinical edge again as Cankovic fired a volley over the bar.
