Manchester United's Luke Shaw, speaking to Sky Sports: "A really important win. We knew how important it was to win today. I am a bit disappointed and angry with myself for the first goal. Extremely happy with the team in the second half, it was really good.

"With the quality in our squad we should have belief all the time we can win games. It always helps when you have someone like Bruno in your team, he can score and create.

"Us as Manchester United should be expected to win here. After last week we were extremely disappointed and knew we had to react today. Of course not the first goal but the way we bounced back after that.

"We kept the tempo high and kept going for more - that is the thing we can improve this season."

What did you make of Luke Shaw's performance?

He was easily beaten in the build-up to Ipswich's first goal.

Shaw has been speaking to Sky Sports.

RioOki: Despite what looks like a comfortable win, United defensively were shocking. Leakier than the Old Trafford roof! Midfield remains an issue to be seriously challenging for a trophy. Maybe Baleba could add some physical presence at the base.

Once again we are victims of the law.

You can't criticise the VAR officials because they are enforcing the law that they are given.

They train extremely hard, they learn their profession but it was a handball and Harry Maguire who struck the shot.

Thankfully that wasn't a game-defining goal. How many times has the handball law been changed?

If you think about the wording of the law itself, it is accident handball by the goalscorer and if Harry Maguire is not the goalscorer then clearly you can't penalise him for that accidental handball.

The VAR can obviously still determine that that was deliberate handball by Maguire if it wanted to - and that could rule out the goal that way. But in terms of the law itself because it wasn't Maguire who scored, the accidental aspect does not apply.

A few years ago, I think it was until 2021 then any accidental handball by a player would have been ruled out. But they realised that was getting penalised far too strictly and ruling out goals when it didn't need to.

They tweaked it and made it for the goalscorer only.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a massive result for us. We lost three points last week. First game at home, the fans have been waiting for this. It's not to make up for last week, you can't get six points from it. Second half we were very good.

"Scoring before half-time is always important if it's to get on top of the game or draw the game. We were in control of the game. In the second half, we were very good.

"Scoring goals is the best feeling in football. Doing a half-time at home with our fans is something I'm proud of. I hope I can do much more and help my team-mate score goals too."

MUFC: Great result, but I wont kid myself, the result flattered us, we could have been two down in the first half...

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, speaking to Sky Sports: "We started the game really well. The goal knocked us back a lot. When you lose at this club, there's a lot of noise and you feel like you're in a crisis again. We spoke about it at half-time. We proved we could've got more.

On his goal: "I haven't seen it back, so I can't really comment. I know it was tight. It wasn't handball on purpose. I dragged the shot wide and I think that's why it stood. It's a new rule. We deserved that win and that bit of luck.

"Last week was disappointing. We prepared all pre-season for the game against Hull. Thankfully, we managed to get the three points. It's a long season and we'll be ready for the next one."

A very good, controlled second half performance from Manchester United.

They went 1-0 down which was a test of their character.

As soon as they went in front, they looked to power on.

A real captain's performance from Bruno Fernandes - a hat-trick and an assist as well.

There are defensive frailties there which will get exposed against better sides.

Not a season definiging game for Ipswich but a job extremely well done for Manchester United.

JE1: United were thoroughly dominant in that second half, and deserved the win, but that handball rule needs addressing.

He [Bruno Fernandes] was fantastic. He is the one that gets Manchester United ticking. There is a reason why he was voted player of the year by his fellow professionals and it's performances like this. We've seen it time and time again. He was the driving force, especially in the second half. The way he played was phenomenal and he brings other players around him up to his level as well.

No doubt about it, Manchester United were deserved winners over the 90 minutes but I think there's going to be a fierce debate about their second goal.

Ipswich crumbled after that VAR intervention.
