    A hat-trick for the captain!

There's many a grey area there.

A handball in the build up to the goal, own goal or no own goal, it was a direct action that led to a goal.

    Man Utd 3-1 Ipswich

Ipswich didn't have to deal with VAR in the Championship.

Two games into the new season, the joy of being in the Premier League has been sucked out of them by the Video Assistant Referee.

So they’re saying it was a handball, but the goal stands because Maguire’s shot wasn’t going to go in until deflected? I’m a United fan but that rule is utter nonsense.

United have Ipswich on the ropes and Marcus Rashford forces a fine save from Kjell Scherpen, who keeps out the England forward's close range volley.

Jacob Greaves takes down Matheus Cunha. It was a stonewall penalty and brilliantly taken from Bruno Fernandes.

Relief and jubilation all combined together.

All of a sudden, from an Ipswich team that were putting up a really good fight, they find themselves two goals down at Old Trafford with a mountain to climb.

    Man Utd 3-1 Ipswich

Suddenly, Ipswich have a mountain to climb.

They are not going to be happy about that second goal for sure.

They have stood toe-to-toe with United but have been undone after the intervention of VAR.

    Bruno Fernandes (penalty)

A horrible couple of minutes for Ipswich.

Bruno Fernandes steps up, pauses, and sends Kjell Scherpen the wrong way.

Matheus Cunha is brought down by Jacob Greaves and Manchester United have a chance to make it 3-1.

    That's going to hurt Ipswich.

The goal stands and because Harry Maguire's shot was going wide, the handball is neutralised and goes down as a Jacob Greaves own goal.

Make of that what you will.

    Harry Maguire

    As I was saying...

United take the lead for the first time thanks to Harry Maguire's deflected finish.

    But did Maguire handle it?

    VAR is looking at it...

It comes to nothing. A point would be very goof for Ipswich but there is such a long way to go and United have looked dangerous this half.

Will Ipswich punish Bryan Mbeumo for that outrageous miss?

The Tractor Boys have just won a corner.

Everyone inside Old Trafford, myself included, thought that was in the back of the net.

Marcus Rashford does superbly well to fire it directly across goal.

Bryan Mbeumo has the whole goal at his mercy.

It's a difficult one with his right thigh.

  15. Postpublished at 17:42 BST

    What on earth?

Manchester United should be ahead but Bryan Mbeumo somehow manages to miss from about two yards out after Marcus Rashford's cross.

Ipswich were cut open there. United should have made it count.

Julio Enciso looks a decent signing. He has caused United lots of bother and he wriggles away to fire over the bar.

Anything but a lightning start to the new half. Manchester United are dominating the ball but there has been zero goalmouth action.

Luke Shaw, meanwhile, has been sent back out for the second half despite being at fault in the build-up to Ipswich's goal.

Shaw goes in hard with a challenge but escapes a yellow card.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:34 BST

Ipswich have made a change at the start of the second half.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:33 BST

    Man Utd 1-1 Ipswich

I suspect Gary O'Neil's half-time message to his Ipswich players was brief: "More of the same, lads."

Back under way at Old Trafford.
