Not a huge amount in it but just one shot on target and an xG of only 0.1 is not what Marc Skinner and Manchester United would want to see.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:52 BST

    Man Utd 0-1 Brighton

    There goes the half-time whistle.

Brighton lead through Jelena Cankovic's goal at the break. It's hard to say they don't deserve it.

Plenty of work for Manchester United to do in the second half.

Ella Toone's cross is headed away but United come again as they try to make something happen before the break.

They get the ball out to Toone again, it's not what the England star wants but the ball loops up and hits the bar before going behind for a goal kick.

Charlie Rule is already on a yellow card for delaying taking a free-kick earlier in the game.

The full-back clearly attempted to stop Frido Rolfo breaking downfield by pulling her back. It didn't work and Rolfo pushed on but eventually gave the ball away.

I am surprised the home bench weren't shouting for a second yellow.

There's not been much by way of a response from Manchester United since falling behind.

In fact, it's Brighton on the attack again after another sloppy pass out from the back gives the visitors a throw-in deep in United territory.

  6. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45+1 mins

    Man Utd 0-1 Brighton

We've had plenty of stoppages in this first half so no surprise that there are six added minutes at the end of this first half.

  7. Man Utd architects of their own downfallpublished at 12:44 BST

You can't say Manchester United weren't warned.

I highlighted their sloppiness in possession before and there were signs of irritation among the home players as they didn't sharpen up.

    Now they are behind.

There is time to come back of course but Marc Skinner's side are well off the pace here.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 41 mins

    Man Utd 0-1 Brighton

Moments after opening the scoring, Jelena Cankovic scythes down Jayde Riviere and is shown a yellow card.

She can have no complaints after that one.

Brighton deal with the subsequent free-kick, though, so the midfielder might think the booking was worth it.

You can see the disappointment on Man United's faces. They caused their own issues with this goal.

It's a dangerous one. Jelena Cankovic is really composed around the goalkeeper there.

    Jelena Cankovic

    A gift for Brighton!

United keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce tries to play out from the back but the pass is cut out and Jelena Cankovic strides into the box.

Just the keeper to beat, she calmly rounds Tullis-Joyce and finishes into the empty net.

Lovely Brighton move and Fran Kirby lays it into the path of Kiko Seike.

The in-form forward opts to fire the ball across the face of goal rather than take a shot but there is no one in the middle to finish.

Chiamaka Nnadozie is OK to continue after a bit of treatment and gets a fist to the ball after United take a short corner before swinging the ball towards the far post.

End-to-end stuff as Brighton threaten, only to find themselves short-handed at the back moments later.

The ball is played down the left and United forward Melvine Malard is able to cut inside and has plenty of time and space in the box to get the shot away.

It forces a good save from Chiamaka Nnadozie, who seems to hurt herself in tipping that shot around the post.

Jess Park's work rate and intelligence is one part of her game that's not spoken about enough.

She can change a game in an instant, that's what United expect from her and have seen on so many occasions this season.

    Nearly for Manchester United.

It's a lovely through ball from Ella Toone but Fridolina Rolfo just can't get on the end of it as Chiamaka Nnadozie is out to gobble it up.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 32 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Brighton

Charlie Rule is shown a yellow card for taking too long over a free-kick just inside the Brighton.

Needless from the Brighton defender. It's very early to be time wasting.

Ella Toone and Julia Zigiotti Olme have both just been guilty of passing straight to the opposition.

A Frido Rolfo lay-off to Anna Sandberg was over hit, past the full-back.

Manchester United are not in the groove at all.
