There's orange smoke in the air as Hull welcome the return of Premier League football after a nine-year absence.

A great atmosphere as the two teams come out onto the pitch.

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick speaking to TNT Sports: "We're excited, the first game of the season brings that. In some ways it is a fresh start with a bit of foundation behind it. Today is a tough game for a lot of reasons but we are ready for it."

On starting new midfield signings Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos: "Top quality between them, two fantastic players and delighted to have them both. The key idea is to make the team better and then individuals within that can thrive as well so that's what makes it exciting."

On Marcus Rashford wearing the number nine shirt and what it suggests: "I don't think that suggests any more than what the situations is. We're delighted to have Marcus back, he's looked fit, sharp and in a really good place. He offers us an awful lot so for sure we are delighted to have him."

On Amad not being on the bench: "He picked up a niggle at the end of the week so we are just assessing that. Hopefully we get Amad back pretty soon, he's been in a good place but we will deal with that."

Manchester United agreed a £70m deal with Brighton for midfielder Carlos Baleba late last night.

The Cameroon international has been cleared to have a medical, which should take place over the weekend.

It has been expected in addition to a 'third midfielder' United would look to sign competition at left-back for Luke Shaw.

However, the word coming out of Old Trafford is one of caution around that.

Baleba can play at left-back in extremis, while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have also played there.

If Newcastle's Lewis Hall is the main target but United have concluded they can't get him this summer, maybe they have decided to wait.

We will find out in the next 10 days.
