George Long's penalty save from Tommy Conway swung the momentum towards Norwich

    An instant Championship classic.

Look out for the highlights of this one being replayed on Wednesday mid-morning satellite TV well into the 2030s.

Norwich led early, were staring at a 4-1 deficit as they conceded a penalty, but got back to 3-3 before the close.

It's hard to argue they deserved to win it, but the quality of Borja Sainz's two goals was such it would have been a travesty if he was on the losing side too.

In truth a point does neither side much good in the grand scheme of things, though it keeps Norwich's proud home unbeaten run past a year.

It's two unbeaten for Boro too, stepping stones towards the end of the season which things really matter, I suppose.

The Championship returns on Friday night when lowly Luton welcome West Brom to Kenilworth Road, though we’ll be back tomorrow night for the League One meeting between Blackpool and Wigan while there is Carabao Cup action to come this week too.

Thanks for your company for this breathless encounter. Definitely going to need to go to bed an hour early tonight now.

    Good evening!

  2. 'I'm proud of the players, but not satisfied with a point'published at 17:43 GMT 27 October 2024

    FT: Norwich 3-3 Middlesbrough

    Middlesbrough

Boro boss Michael Carrick told Sky Sports he was proud despite missing out on the three points.

"I'm really proud of the players," he said. "I thought we were really good for the most part. We looked dangerous and played good football.

"In the end the difference was two unbelievable strikes and a bad third goal

"We were terrific, the best team, and should have gone on and won the game.

"We knew at half-time 3-1 wasn't enough - we what they were capable of, a dangerous team with good players."

Carrick backed Tommy Conway after his penalty miss, adding: "Tommy is fine, he scores penalties, he'll score them again, it's just the momentum and the energy in the stadium they got from that.

"There's not really a lot we can do about the wonderful strike (from Borja Sainz which made it 3-2).

"To go a goal down against a really good team but come back to dominate the game - I am really proud of the players, but no, I am not satisfied with a point."

  3. 'Sainz is a fantastic player but only because of the weekday work'published at 17:36 GMT 27 October 2024

    FT: Norwich 3-3 Middlesbrough

    Norwich City

On whether the missed penalty changed the game, Thorup admitted that it was a big moment - but so was his threat from the wing, Borja Sainz:

"We got some fire into us. We scored shortly after which gave us the boost that we needed.

"Borja Sainz can make the difference, he can score goals out of nothing. He's a threat for us throughout all the minutes he's played.

"At the moment, he's a fantastic player and I try to guarantee he will continue to be that but it only comes from hard work from Monday to Friday.

"Our ambition is that we can get more wins for this team. I think the foundation is there. It's difficult games, all of them.

"There's so much support to each other. There's a good spirit within the group."

  4. 'The feeling that Carrow Road is a difficult place, that's important'published at 17:29 GMT 27 October 2024

    FT: Norwich 3-3 Middlesbrough

    Norwich City

Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup speaking to Sky Sports:

"I can tell you I will not last long if the games continue to be like this. It was a hectic one.

"I had a good feeling from the start of the game, we started well. Then we completely switched off for 20 minutes.

"It's something we have to look at. It's not just players, it's all of us.

"What everyone could feel out there was the crowd. The place was on fire in those last 20 minutes and we were pushing towards that fourth goal before the red card.

"From my position, it seems soft but I'm also supporting the guys in yellow today. I trust the referees - I don't want to be the coach that blames them for the performance.

"We were on our way to create a better result than even just a draw.

"The feeling that it's a difficult place to come, it's important."

  5. 'We showed great quality to get back in it'published at 17:22 GMT 27 October 2024

    FT: Norwich 3-3 Middlesbrough

    Norwich City

Norwich defender Shane Duffy told Sky Sports: "It was an entertaining game - it was probably not the way we wanted it to be - lot of goals, but two good teams going at it.

"We were delighted to get back in after the last 20 minutes of the first half.

"We showed the great character in the squad to get back in it."

On Borja Sainz's superb double, he said: "We see it every day in training, he works really hard, he is dedicated - he steps up in big moments.

"He's taking this league by storm. We'll keep feeding his confidence."

Norwich are now unbeaten at home in 12 months, 21 of them league games, and Duffy admitted: "It's amazing. It's tough for teams to come here. When we play at home we feel unbeatable.

"There are a lot of draws in there but there is a lot of belief in that squad and we never give up."

"I am happy but as for the team, I think the second-half is an amazing performance.

"The team is good but the boss says take confidence from the first minute."

We've had two players who could have been on a hat-trick, a red card, a missed penalty....

Just a crazy game - back-to-back. I'm interested to see what Johannes Hoff Thorup says because I don't think he will be pleased defensively.

I feel like I've played. It's been a very hectic game with ups and downs. It's been madness.

A fantastic football game but a tiring game.

Where to start? Quite simply one of the best games you'll see.

Borja Sainz started it with a wonder goal, Tommy Conway's fine double, one volley and a cool finish to seal a devastating counter, turned the tide and Finn Azaz scrambled a third for Boro on the stroke of half-time.

However after Conway saw a tame penalty saved by George Long, Sainz smashed another world-class strike into the top corner and Seny Dieng's unfortunate own-goal as he tried to keep out a deflected Kellen Fisher cross made it 3-3.

Norwich's hopes of completing a stunning comeback to claim all three points were hampered as Kenny McLean saw red late on.

They do however extend their unbeaten streak at Carrow Road to a year - 21 league games - while neither side is able to climb the table, sitting eighth and ninth still.

    SIX added minutes.

Shame it's not 26, to be honest.

Micah Hamilton is coming on for Boro, replacing Aidan Morris, while for Norwich, Borja Sainz is withdrawn to a standing ovation, deservedly so, replaced by Jacob Sorenson. Kaide Gordon is on for Josh Sargent too.

    It's dangerous play.

Straight red for Norwich captain Kenny McLean after a high lunge on Hayden Hackney.

Nothing malicious, but it's not a nice one. James Bell has little choice. Straight down his shin.

Big moment as he's been excellent for Norwich. Will this quell their momentum.
