Amazing that everyone keeps claiming the foul on Raya is what Arsenal have ‘been doing all season’ yet can’t provide examples, apart from the Bayindir challenge where he made a mess of a punch. And the grappling in the box happens in every game from every team, deal with it.

    Gav, Buckhurst Hill

I’ve seen a few references on here to Saliba’s “foul” on Bayindir. This is based on a still image taken before the ball is played. There is no holding when Bayindir flaps at the ball. That is the difference there.

    Ben, Adelaide

Losing my mind at Saliba v Bayindir keep getting mention. The still image makes it look like a hold but then when you actually watch the clip they are both jostling for space and there is no hold. You can’t keep saying something to hope it’ll become true.

  3. 'Foul is clear and obvious'published at 09:16 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

    John Murray
BBC football correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a decision that was over four minutes long, but I feel that was justified. The timing that it took because of the size of the incident.

I would say that the actual foul is clear and obvious. What's not clear and obvious are the other fouls when they happened and did they impact on the clear and obvious foul? That's how I'm seeing it.

It felt like that was the toughest hurdle that Arsenal have got left, and they managed to get over it.

Get Involved - 'VAR unpicks action far too much'published at 09:11 BST

Raya is in no mans land and gets lucky based on a split second frame. VAR unpicks the action far too much rather than in real time. Arsenal have scored goals similar to this and they have stood. The inconsistency will always be VARs defect.

    Louis, London

Oh, would you look at this, it's Monday morning, it's the latest episode of "The Curse of the VAR". It's genuinely getting tedious. But the authorities have invested way too much in it for them to actually take the correct course of action, which is to scrap it entirely.

    Anton, Montpellier

It looked a clear foul but everyone cries for consistency. This season this same thing has happened but the goal stood (Saliba v Bayindir in August). In isolation give the foul, but for consistency this season, give the goal. Either give both goals or give both as fouls.

  5. 'It's killing the game'published at 09:08 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

    Andy Payne OBE
West Ham Supporters' Board Chair on BBC Radio 5 Live

I watched Jarrod Bowen talk about the fact that if you look at something long enough, you're going to find a problem.

I've looked at it and there were at least two, if not three, Arsenal players bundling my standing place on the floor.

This business in the Premier League, it's got to be stopped, it is just ridiculous and it's killing the game.

  6. Where's the consistency? - Bowenpublished at 09:04 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen echoed his manager's comments about the lack of consistency in decision making, when deciding what is and is not a foul at set-pieces:

"A real blow. We thought we'd done so well to get back in it and had it taken away from us.

"When you look at the screen for five minutes you'll find something - a lot of grappling and a lot of holding. I'm sure if you look long enough you'll find something. Do I think it's the right decision? No.

"Frustration. Where's the consistency? As a fan you don't want to celebrate a goal and then wait eight minutes and it's taken off you.

"Corners are physical. The Premier League is physical. That's why everyone loves it. You have to expect contact at corners. If you give that you have to give all the holding calls in the world and that's not the way people want the game to go down.

"I don't want to sound bitter but last week we had one with Tomas Soucek held at Brentford and we didn't get a penalty. But then you can't give one like that today."

In isolation it looks a foul, however, Pablo is being fouled himself, and Rice is rugby tackling Mavropanos. 5 mins is not clear and obvious. Just no consistency in any of these decisions in the 6 yard box from set pieces. Should have stood on the basis of the above.

    Russell, East Sussex

What about the foul on Taty by both Trossard and Gabriel?! if he isn't impeded before and during his jump then he gets higher and probably wins the ball. Add all the other fouls in the box, surely they have to look at the sequence from the start

  8. 'A massive, massive decision'published at 08:55 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

    John Murray
BBC football correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

We're always keen, aren't we? To say was it the biggest [VAR decision]?

Was it the most impactful? Was it the most seismic decision yet in the Premier League? And I think because of the timing in the match, in the fifth minute of added time at the end, it was likely to be and indeed proved to be match-defining.

I think because of the ramifications for the two clubs, I can understand why people would say that. A massive, massive decision.

You will probably have an avalanche of opinions from West Ham supporters who wouldn't agree with that. I felt it was quite definitive that it was a foul on the Arsenal goalkeeper by Pablo of West Ham with his arm across the goalkeeper’s chest, right under his chin, holding one of his arms.

  9. 'It should be addressed, what's allowed and what isn't allowed'published at 08:52 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

Here is what West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo had to say to BBC's Match of the Day, immediately after Sunday's dramatic defeat by Arsenal:

"We made a good performance full of energy, full of belief and intensity in our actions. Proud of the way we played but upset that we didn't get the result we wanted or needed. Upset at the way the match finished, but again trying to react and give it everything to the last second.

"I didn't see the images properly with replays to analyse but it's the lack of consistency over the last few seasons. The allowance of grappling, blocking, holding. I think we have lost a bit of what is a foul and what isn't a foul. Previously it would be judged differently so that's what upsets me.

"The lack of consistency - there's a referee, there's VAR - it's not up to us to judge. It should be addressed, what is allowed and what isn't allowed."

I'm conflicted. Raya would have saved if not impeded. But several Arsenal players grappling. Not the way I want us to win.

    Julian, North London

The decision could have gone either way so “not a clear and obvious error”. VAR should not re-referee the game. Goal should have stood. A neutral fan.

    Alan, Maidenhead

It was a rough and tumble at the end think West ham were hard done by, didn't think there was much in the foul on the goalkeeper.

Jean-Clair Todibo is pulling on David Raya and Pablo has pinned him [David Raya] and you cannot do that.

It is the right decision. Credit to Darren England [VAR official].

You have to get it right, and I think he gets it 100% spot on. Now it is Arsenal’s title – I think they win it now.

It is hard for the referee because there are so many bodies and it’s crowded. So much was happening in the penalty area, but that is what VAR is there for.

They didn’t get a lot right [this weekend], but I feel they got this call 100% spot on.

I can’t understand the level of uproar by many people in the football sphere on this decision. There’s fouls from both sides but Raya is clearly going to get the ball and has two players pulling him down! Easy decision, just think maybe it’s more about Arsenal than VAR!

    Tom, Surrey

When has it ever been controversial for a foul to be given when a goalie has his arms pulled down so he can't catch the ball? Arsenal fans are being gaslit here given some of the decisions that have gone against them in recent seasons.

  13. 'What a responsibility, what a big call' - Artetapublished at 08:40 BST

    West Ham 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta suffered along with everyone else as he waited for the VAR decision.

"My instinct, because I watched it live, is that it was going to be a foul," the Gunners boss said.

"But I understand and today I realised for the referees to be in that position and make that call and change the course of [the game and season for] one of the two teams.

"What a responsibility, what a big call."

So we've had plenty of strong and contrasting views coming in for both sides of the argument - as you would expect given what was at stake.

What's the point of asking PGMOL to explain you once more what is clearly visible to all, clear foul on Raya by 2 (two) West Ham players. It's not PGMOL that relegated you, it's bad transfer windows. GL and comeback next year.

    Dare, Peckham

Definite foul on the keeper, and West Ham adopted almost violent tactics in the Arsenal box to intimidate the Gunners. Very good call.

    Les, Poole

Two players fouling Raya, one pulling his shirt the other with his arm across Raya's chest holding his arm. Clear foul VAR intervention correct on this one.

Very unfair to the West Ham fans, FA has to answer to this unfairness.

    Paul, Lugogo

VAR was brought in to stop the inconsistency of decisions by referees to make the game better and fair. But it still fails. Make the comparison yesterday Pablo v Raya and Saliba v Bayandir at start is season. Arm across the keeper. VAR WILL NOT MAKE THE GAME BETTER!!

    Mohammed, Leeds

Inconsistent decision making is what VAR has brought into the game. That goal would have stood in just about every other game this weekend.

West Ham will contact the Professional Game Match Official Limited (PGMOL) to raise concerns and request further explanation following the controversial decision to disallow their late equaliser against Arsenal on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side thought they had equalised against the Premier League leaders when substitute Callum Wilson hammered home a finish in a packed penalty box following a corner.

But after a video assistant referee (VAR) review, the goal was ruled out for a foul by Pablo on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
