  2. Man Utd players need to show 'desire' and 'passion'published at 21:04 GMT

You are in the Champions League and you are expecting with all the talk and criticism of the players some sort of reaction, and there was nothing, absolutely nothing.

Roma came out and took the ball, they were more aggressive, winning tackles. I haven't seen anyone [at Man Utd] putting a tackle in.

They are also really struggling down Roma's right down side.

You just want see some sort of fight, and yeah, you might be losing the game, your indivual battles but show some passion, show some desire to try and get back in the football game.

  3. 'It's been difficult to watch'published at 21:02 GMT

    HT: Man Utd 0-2 Roma

    Kasper Schmeichel
Former Leicester goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a really poor half. I go back to it again, the things that they control they just aren't doing. The body language when they lose the ball is terrible. The whole vibe of the crowd, everything is just not going to work the way it's going at the moment and it's been difficult to watch.

I feel for the fans. I think it's been a tough few weeks and it's only getting worse. The thing about the whole situation is I can't really see how it's going to get better because I don't think getting rid of Michael Carrick is going to solve too much.

And for Michael Carrick coming up against a Gian Piero Gasperini team is the last thing you want when your running stats are like Man United's.

I've been a fan of Manchester United since the early 1980s. We've been through fantastic times under Sir Alex, but this team and club are a shadow of that. As much as Carrick needs to shoulder the blame, so do the players and senior club figures.

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport Manchester United reporter at Old Trafford

Manchester United's fans made their feelings known in no uncertain manner at half-time.

They protested twice before that, releasing hundreds of balloons when the teams came out of the tunnel.

Then there were dozens of yellow tennis balls thrown onto the pitch in a further show of discontent against the ownership.

Green and gold are the colours of Newton Heath, the club United became and have been the colours of the anti-Glazer protests since the American family bought the club in 2005.

As it stands, Manchester United are heading towards a 10th game without a win in all competitions for the first time in a full season since 1977-78.

Chances at both ends but it's goalless at half-time between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich at the Metropolitano.

Not a result that really helps either team.

Paris St-Germain are four up at Villarreal with all four goals coming in the first 17 minutes. The Spanish side can consider themselves fortunate that it isn't more.

Inter Milan are halfway to their second win of this league phase, leading Feyenoord 2-0 at the break in the Netherlands.

Robert Ljubicic has added a third for LASK and they look set to hand Slovan Bratislava a fourth straight loss in the competition, while there has been no goals as yet in the game between Bodo/Glimt and Lille.

  8. 'If Villa cut out mistakes they can get a result here'published at 20:54 GMT

    HT: Barcelona 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at Nou Camp

I think Unai Emery will be really pleased with his team's performance at half-time as they've shown they can hurt Barcelona.

But also cut out the mistakes at the back end of the pitch. If you cut them out you stand a chance of getting something from the game.

Boos as Manchester United's players head down the tunnel. Not much to like about that first half for the hosts.

Just what will Michael Carrick say?

  10. 'Wasn't far away'published at 20:51 GMT

    HT: Manchester United 0-2 Roma

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on Amazon Prime

I was just waiting for the net to bulge. Soule takes that touch, moves the ball away from himself and the defender to set himself up to curl it into the top corner.

Goodness me that wasn't far away.

Matias Soule almost makes it three with a brilliant effort from range but he fires just wide and that will be the last action of the first half.

Forty five minutes to forget for the hosts.

    Manchester United 0-2 Roma

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on Amazon Prime

There's not been anything in this performance. I haven't seen a tackle, a cross, an effort at goal. There is nothing in this performance to be positive about.

I don't know where [Carrick] starts because they have been that poor in every department.

Defensively all over the place, midfield no creativity, and up front no running in behind, no efforts at goal, no holding the ball up. It's really been embarrassing for them.

  13. Postpublished at 20:48 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

A big chance for Manchester United to pull one back before the break as they win a free-kick 25-yards out.

Bruno Fernandes plays it short for Kobbie Mainoo and the midfielder registers United's first shot on target but it was a fairly straightforward save in the end for Devis Vasquez.

Advantage Barcelona at the break, but Aston Villa are in this and have had their moments.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:47 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Roma get on the break at pace and Donyell Malen gets himself one one one. He looks to slot into the bottom far corner but is denied by a full-stretch save from Senne Lammens. A really good stop, that was heading for the net.

Rodrigo Mora is there for the follow up but also shoots at the keeper.

  16. Postpublished at 20:45 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Carlos Baleba tees things up for Bruno Fernandes but the Portuguese scoops it over the bar.

Probably Manchester United's best chance of the game so far but the finish wasn't there.

  17. Postpublished at 20:43 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Bruno Fernandes' free-kick is straight into the wall before Carlos Baleba sends a poor pass out wide.

Just a few minutes to go until the break. Just what is Michael Carrick going to say to his players?

  18. 'You pay to watch Lamine Yamal live'published at 20:43 GMT

    Barcelona 1-0 Aston Villa

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at Nou Camp

Ian Maatsen has been booked and is just stood flat footed against Lamine Yamal and gets nutmegged. He is a player you pay to watch live. The admission is worth it alone just to watch Lamine Yamal.

  19. Postpublished at 20:43 GMT

    Manchester United 0-2 Roma

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on Amazon Prime

It's so alarming how easy Man Utd are to play through from one end of the pitch to the other they get opened up, and then they are scrambling back [with] last ditch tackles.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:43 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Donyell Malen goes into the referee's book for a foul on Carlos Baleba.

A clear booking and United have a free-kick in a decent spot.
