Scunthorpe United booked their place in the National League play-off semi-finals with a narrow victory over Southend United at the Attis Arena.

Callum Roberts' fifth-minute strike was all that separated the rivals, who finished the regular season only one point apart in the table.

Daniel Whitehall secured possession in Southend's half and supplied Roberts, whose left-footed shot found the bottom corner after he had dashed into the area.

Roberts' 20th goal of the season was enough to set up a semi-final appointment with Rochdale on Sunday, while Southend's campaign ended with Harry Taylor being sent off for a second bookable offence eight minutes into injury time.
