Tranmere's relegation fears heightened after a home defeat by in-form Bristol Rovers at Prenton Park.

Yusuf Akhamrich struck a late winner for the Pirates to leave the hosts 12 games without a win and just a point above the bottom two teams in League Two.

Promise Omochere gave Rovers the lead and despite Jayden Joseph's equaliser, Steve Evans' side responded to stretch their winning run to seven games.

The visitors had the first clear chance in the 19th minute when Shaq Forde fired over from 20 yards.

Tranmere grew into the game and created opportunities through Kaiyne Woolery and Zech Obiero, but the sides went in level at the break.

The hosts started brightly after the restart when Obiero forced a save from Brad Young with a fierce drive from the edge of the area.

But the Pirates took the lead in the 64th minute when substitute Omochere pounced on a defensive error and fired past Marko Marosi from a tight angle.

Tranmere equalised seven minutes later through Joseph, who ran on to Ethan Bristow's pass and slotted home.

However, Akhamrich struck late to seal the win and leave Tranmere in deep trouble.
