New men's 400m hurdles world record holder Alison dos Santos said: "The crowd and the energy were perfect. I think this night was amazing for me, for those who came to watch - I did it for everybody.

"I hope that Brazil stopped to watch this as much as the people here in the stadium. This has been an incredible night, I have no words to explain what happened other than I just broke the world record.

"I was looking for my coach since I crossed the finish line. I was the one running, but he is the one who made this possible - someone who believed in me when I was younger.

"He helped me to develop both as an athlete and as a person, too. He's like an older brother, like a dad to me."

Before we leave you, we'll bring you a bit of reaction from the athletes.

First up, here's what Georgia Hunter Bell had to say after finishing third in the women's 800m behind Audrey Werro and Femke Broeders-Bol:

"This was my opportunity to run fast. I really wanted to rub 1.54 but it wasn't enough," Hunter Bell said.

"I still have the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, and my focus there will be the 1500."

Dutch star Broeders-Bol said: "I really enjoyed it. Racing against these great runners, I love it. But there are still so many things to learn. Being in a great event with a great time - amazing.

"Audrey helped me and I am happy. I am starting to get confident. I am still learning this event. I am in a very good shape."

Elsewhere, Armand Duplantis went close to another pole vault world record - and he was pushed all the way by Emmanouil Karalis.

There was also a world record attempt in the men's 800m, but David Rudisha's 14-year mark survived Emmanuel Wanyonyi's best efforts.

The good news is, the season is far from over as we enter September!

But that wasn't all!

Audrey Werro once again proved a class above her 800m competitors as she lowered her personal best to edge even closer to the sport's longest-standing world record.

The Swiss 22-year-old has now posted three of the five fastest times in history this season - and the fastest three times in the past four decades.

Two hurdles world records in one night?

That's going to take some time to get over...

And breathe.

Two world records, and no shortage of brilliant competition.

What a night in Zurich.

Here are those two standout performances for you.

First, Alison dos Santos broke the men's 400m hurdles record, beating former record holder Karsten Warholm in the process.

Then, just 40 minutes later, Masai Russell went and did this in the women's 100m hurdles.

An utterly dominant victory for Kenneth Bednarek!

The American flew off the bend and would not be caught on the home straight.

He sets a new world lead of 19.62 seconds, with Sinesipho Dambile trailing in 19.82.

Right, on to the final race of the night on the track.

It's the men's 200m, and it features American Kenneth Bednarek and South Africa's Sinesipho Dambile, the third and fourth fastest men in the world this year.

That was another performance in which Georgia Hunter Bell displayed her versatility. She must surely be tempted to go for the double at the Olympics in two years' time.

Earlier this summer, BBC Sport spent a day with the M11 Track Club, the Manchester-based training group overseen by Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows which has overseen Keely Hodgkinson's and Hunter Bell's rise to the top of the sport.

Since picking up the phone to Painter in late 2022, Hunter Bell has gone from a full-time 9-5 job to full-time, global medal-winning athletics star.

Discussing the importance of her coaches in her remarkable return to the sport, Hunter Bell says: "Together they're a really good guiding force, but you do see them like family, like second parents.

"I have to give Jen and Trev a lot of credit for the culture that they have created."

We've been treated to not one but TWO world records tonight in Zurich.

Less than 40 minutes after Alison dos Santos made history in the men's 400m hurdles, Masai Russell clocked 12.09 seconds in winning the women’s 100m hurdles.

Here is that stunning performance.

Femke Broeders-Bol comes home in second, lowering her personal best in her first season as an 800m runner to 1:54.71.

That is remarkable in itself by the two-time world champion hurdler.

It's third for Georgia Hunter Bell in a season's best 1:55.03.

What a race! That certainly did not disappoint.

Audrey Werro crossed the finish line just ahead of Georgia Hunter Bell to win the women's 800m in Zurich last season.

Argh, it was almost there!

Armand Duplantis throws the bar in frustration after it momentarily appeared like it might stay up and confirm a third world record of the night.

It's not to be. But it is certainly not far away. Victory for Duplantis with a clearance at 6.25m, ahead of Greece's Emmanouil Karalis with a lifetime best of 6.20m.

Georgia Hunter Bell has targeted four championship golds in 2026. Three down, one to go.

The 32-year-old continues to go from strength to strength since returning to the sport and re-establishing contact with former coach Trevor Painter.

Now, the athlete who Painter had long referred to as 'the one that got away' is quickly making up for lost time.

Hunter Bell has won seven medals on the international stage since claiming her first two years ago, adding world indoor 1500m, European 1500m and Commonwealth 800m golds to her collection in 2026.

Next on her list is the inaugural World Ultimate Championships in September. Before then, she will look to mix it with the world's best 800m runners in Zurich.

While Audrey Werro has long shown huge potential, few foresaw the 2026 season she has had - including herself.

The European champion, 22, is backing herself to one day overhaul one of athletics' oldest and most controversial world records.

Based on her performances this season, she is not far off doing so.

Jarmila Kratochvilova's world record time of one minute 53.28 seconds has remained untouched for 43 years.

But Werro lowered her personal best to 1:53.80 this summer, becoming the third-fastest woman in history and moving within half a second of Kratochvilova's time.

"Things have happened really fast," said Werro.

"I was not prepared for a world record this year. I just want to focus on running fast and winning some races and I think with this mentality the world record will fall one day. But I don't know when."

Next up on the track, it's the much talked about women's 800m.
