Sing along to the Pterosaurs rap
Get ready for a dino-mite rap battle between Hatzegopteryx and Quetzalcoatlus... It's going to take off!
What are Pterosaurs?
Pterosaurs were flying reptiles, not dinosaurs, and included some of the largest flying animals ever, like Hatzegopteryx and Quetzalcoatlus.
🦴 Hatzegopteryx
Size champion: One of the biggest flying animals ever, with a wingspan of around 10 metres.
Massive skull: Its skull could reach up to 2.5 metres long – huge, but still lightweight and strong. Its skull structure was light like polystyrene but incredibly durable.
Predator status: Hatzegopteryx was a powerful predator and likely an apex predator in its environment.
Habitat: It lived on a forested island, with trees like birch, walnut, and beech.
Body shape: It likely had a shorter neck but heavier body compared to relatives like Quetzalcoatlus.
Behaviour: It may have intimidated large dinosaurs, performed courtship displays, and even built bowers.
✈️ Quetzalcoatlus
Enormous wings: Had a wingspan of up to 11 metres – about the size of a small aeroplane!
Where it lived: Lived over 67 million years ago in what is now Texas, USA.
Take-off ability: It had to jump up to 2.5 metres into the air before taking flight. Once airborne, it soared like modern vultures and condors.
Diet: Fed on fish and small aquatic animals like amphibians and reptiles. Used its long, delicate beak to pluck prey from water, swallowing it whole.
Not a scavenger: Its beak was too delicate to tear meat from carcasses.
Wing structure: Its wings were attached to its front limbs, more like a bird than a bat.
Landing style: It landed like an aeroplane, slowing down before gently touching the ground.

Verse 1
Hatzegopteryx
I’m a Hatzegopteryx, yeah, that’s who I am
I’m more than two times bigger than a big, big man
I’m from Romania, from Europe, in the east
I’m a hunky chunky Pterosaur, giant flying beast
Quetzalcoatlus
Step aside big guy, let me in, I’m Quetzalcoatlus
Yeh, I’m from Texas…check it out in an atlas!
I’m your taller, cooler, orange-coloured cousin, okay?
And I’m all the way from the US of A – that’s America!
Chorus
Pterosaur! We’re big, we’re tall!
Pterosaur! Yeah, wider than a shopping mall!
Pterosaur! And we love to glide!
Did you know we’ve got hollow bones?
Hollow bones on the inside!
Pterosaur! We walk on all fours!
Pterosaur! Got no need for paws!
Pterosaur! We’re wide, we’re tall!
Yeah, we are the big, big, big, big, big biggest of them all!
Verse 2
Hatzegopteryx
OK you might be bright with your flashy orangey red
But I got a sleek grey coat, and stripes on my neck instead
Quetzalcoatlus
That’s right, I’m bright, like light, I’m a beacon of the sky – check me out
Your dull, dull grey’s ok but it’s nothing to shout about
Chorus
Verse 3
Professor Andy
Now stop, wait a minute let me just do a fact check...
Let me just see who is who…
Now, you are Hatzegopteryx,
Hmmm now let me check
Ah, you are the one from an island
And you have the stripy neck
Both of you are Pterosaurs
But just not quite the same
And, you are the one from the USA
With a slightly larger frame
Quetzalcoatlus
I think I understand
Cretaceous Pterosaurs
Lived in the sky and on the land
From 70 million years ago,
That checks out, nothing’s wrong
So I will bid you farewell
You may go back to your song – bye bye!
Chorus
Chorus Outro Vamp
Quetzalcoatlus
Hey, Hatzegopteryx, you know we’re quite alike
Hatzegopteryx
Yeah, Quetzalcoatlus, I think you’re right
Quetzalcoatlus
We come from different parts of the world,
Both
But so what?
We are both Pterosaurs
And I like you a lot!
Ahhh!
