The Apprentice - The search for a radio star: Day Two

With the help of station manager Jason Horton, (Sir) Jeremy Sallis destroys the hopes and aspirations of the first of our apprentices... Who's the first casualty? Who gets fired today?

It's day two of the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Apprentice-style-search-for-a-future-star-type-thing and we welcome back our willing victims to the studio of the Cambridgeshire Breakfast Show, where presenter Jeremy Sallis is joined by the managing editor of BBC Cambridgeshire, Jason Horton.

Together, it's their job to judge how well our five apprentices have completed their first task.

On day one, we asked our students from CRC's Radio Broadcast and Journalism course to sally forth and create a 30-second 'vox pop' on a hot topic of their own choosing.

You can hear each of their radio packages below, followed by comments from today's judge, Jason Horton.

Gary

Gary

Gary - What do people think about proposals to tighten up drinking laws?

Darren - If you could say just one thing on the radio, what would it be?

Sam

Sam

Sam - What's the best thing about Cambridge?

Nicki - Are you scared about rising crime rates?

Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea - is there help out there for teen mums?

Darren

Darren

Decision time... who's for the chop?

Oh dear, oh dear... Poor Darren didn't help his cause by arriving late (well, the traffic was terrible!) and the boss decides that either he, or Gary, is for the chop. But it's (Sir) Jez Sallis who's got to make the final decision...

Listen to their deliberations here:

And cover the rest of the page if you don't want to know the final outcome of today's challenge, because...

"Darren - You're FIRED!"

Tuesday's challenge

The remaining four apprentices - Gary, Sam, Nicki and Chelsea live to fight another day and now have to put together a 30-second news bulletin which will be judged by Look East presenter, Janine Machin.

Good luck, apprentices!

Keep your eyes on this page as we follow the progress of our students throughout the week
