1. Who is Roald Dahl?

Roald Dahl is a world-renowned author and screenwriter, famous for producing a litany of children's books from the 1940s right through to his death.

Dahl was born to Norwegian parents in Llandaff, Cardiff. Dahl's childhood was one littered with tragedy, losing both his sister and father within a few weeks of each other when he was just three.

One of the few shining lights in a turbulent childhood was a Cadbury's chocolate factory, local to Dahl's school, sending along new products for the students of the school to test. The experience, and the adolescent imaginings it would bring about, would go on to inspire one of Dahl's most iconic tales.

Dahl served as a fighter pilot during the World War Two, and his service would bring him contact with James Bond author Ian Fleming.

As a matter of fact, some of Dahl's most famous screenplays were actually adaptations of Fleming's work, including James Bond film 'You Only Live Twice' and 1968 musical 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
