UK election: where the largest parties stand on foreign affairs

In the run-up to the UK general election, the BBC World Service has been looking at the foreign policy pledges of the three largest parties in a series of interviews with their foreign policy spokesmen.

The third largest party, the Liberal Democrats say in their manifesto that they will put "British values of fairness and rule of law back into Britain's foreign policy".

Claire Bolderson asked their foreign affairs spokesman, Ed Davey if that meant foreign policy had been unfair and unlawful.

The Conservatives are the largest opposition party.

Their shadow foreign secretary and former party leader is William Hague.

His party talks of a "liberal conservative" foreign policy in its manifesto.

What do they mean by that?

The governing Labour Party's manifesto says the UK will continue to press for stronger action against terrorism and learn the lessons of "recent experience" to prevent and defuse conflict.

Claire Bolderson asked the foreign secretary, David Miliband, what "recent experience" he had in mind.
