1982: The Mary Rose is recovered
King Henry VIII's warship The Mary Rose, which sank in 1545, was raised from the Solent after lying there for 437 years. Following a heart-stopping moment when part of the recovery frame snapped, the ship was raised to a salute of cannon fire.
