Meet Snuffles the Albino Hedgehog

Meet the latest must have... it's not a computer game, and it's not a toy, it's an albino hedgehog.

BBC Tees' Matthew Davies speaks to Kevin Stevens, managing director of Coast to Coast in Darlington about his albino hedgehogs...

"These are an African species, not the British ones" Says Kevin.

"Albinos of this species are quite common, not in the wild, but in captivity.

"They're stunning animals, and we generally have a waiting list (of buyers) of around about 20-30 people at any one time."

They're beautiful little things, but I'm not sure I'd like to pick one up...

"They actually hold their spines flat once they get used to your scent, so they don't prickle you."

"They're very friendly, when they know you, they'll ball up and prickle a little bit when the don't know you, and when they bite it's like a little nip not like when a hamster bites and it hurts."

Rush Hour Ruth gets attached and names the hedgehog Snuffles, listen to the full interview by clicking the link at the top right of this page, and check out the photo gallery!
