It's time for Father's Day

Unsung Heroes

It might be Father's Day, but there is someone else that Mark has to say thanks to...

I feel a bit of a fraud today.

I am encouraging people to salute their fathers on this special day set aside for them; and, I don't even have a dad.

Well, no doubt there was a chap who played a part when it came to bringing me into this world; but, once they found out I'd been born blind, he didn't want to be involved in my up-bringing.

So, my mum has been mother and father to me all of my life, and still continues to fulfil that role.

I suppose that means I can high-jack father's day to celebrate the contribution my mum has made to my life.

After all, I do it on mother's day, so why not?

I don't want to get all sickly with the words I could use; but maybe you're in the same situation.

Maybe you never met your dad, or your dad hasn't played any part in your life; well, join me in thanking god for our mum's.

We don't do it often enough do we?

Thanks for being there, and being a part of my life.

Thanks for cheering me when I'm down; for crying and laughing with me; for always wanting the best no matter what it cost, and however big the sacrifices had to be.

Thanks for always being there when I need you, and having faith in me; for working so hard to see me through school and college.

For being both mum and dad for me.

My mum is the unsung hero of my life; if yours is, then tell her so today; and, if dad is still on the scene, make sure he gets a bit of praise on this special day.
