Johnston was last called up the England squad in 2002 |
Nottingham Rugby Club have signed former England centre Ben Johnston as player-coach on a one-year deal. Johnston, 31, who won two full caps for England in 2002, spent last season with French side Brive and has also played for Saracens and Northampton. Director of rugby Glenn Delaney was delighted - particularly given Tim Molenaar's recent switch to Gloucester. "He will be a great addition and will play an important part in the first Championship," Delaney said. "Ben will have responsibility for back play and attack and brings a wealth of Premiership and international experience. "He is a proven player at the highest level and will give us plenty of options in the midfield but also provide leadership and direction to a young and developing set of players. " Johnston will make his Green and Whites debut in Sunday's opening game of the new-look Championship against Cornish Pirates at Meadow Lane.
