Guernsey lawn bowler Don Batiste says he is 'proud' to be the oldest competitor at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The 73-year-old only took up the sport 13 years ago, and pips bowls legend Willie Wood, 72, to the accolade

Batiste said: "I'm very surprised I am the oldest as I thought Willie Wood was a bit older than me but I'm proud to be the oldest."

He has joined up with Ian Merrien to compete in the men's pairs event.

Scotland's Wood started bowls at 13 years old and first represented his country in 1966 and in 2002 became the first athlete to compete in a 7th Commonwealth Games.

His Games career has included four medals, including an individual gold in 1982 and the role of captain in the 1990 winning fours team.
