The purpose-built Olympic Tennis Centre bears a strong resemblance to the 2000 facility in Sydney as both were designed by Briton Richard Rees.

It is part of the main complex, situated nine kilometres north of Athens city centre, which is also the site of the Olympic stadium.

The Centre Court houses the players' lounge and locker rooms, media centre, tournament control and technology.

There are 16 courts in total, with Centre Court capacity 8,000.

There are two further show courts with a capacity of 7,000 each and another seven courts with a seating capacity of 200 and the surface throughout is Decoturf II - the same as the US Open.

The first formal matches held at the new complex were a men's futures and women's circuit event in March.

The venue will also host the wheelchair tennis tournament during the Paralympics.
