On Monday, Gael Monfils bade farewell to Roland Garros. On Tuesday, a new French star emerged.

World number 318 Moise Kouame, making his French Open debut aged 17, beat Marin Cilic in straight sets in round one before coming through a five-set marathon against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.

He'll be in action on Court Suzanne-Lenglen shortly, facing Chile's Alejandro Tabilo for a spot on the fourth round.

French coach Antoine Benneteau spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live's French Open Daily podcast about the teenage sensation.

"His older brother is a big inspiration," Benneteau said. "They've been in tennis from the beginning. We see with Richard Gasquet being his coach and Gael Monfils quitting this year, it's crazy how the stars are aligned for French tennis. It is the end of the era for the new Four Musketeers and we have a new one coming up.

"He's a typical modern player all around the court. He has everything in his game. He's strong, he can do damage with his forehand and his serve, he moves quickly, he's super balanced when he's going to the ball - I don't see a weakness. His backhand down the line did a lot of trouble against Vallejo [in round two].

"And he can still improve. He can be more powerful, he can win more free points with the serve. Physically, he can get bigger.

    "The sky is the limit."
