How Stan Wawrinka will miss this sort of atmosphere when he retires from playing.

The crowd have been excellent so far for the Swiss as he battles to extend his final French Open campaign - and his name is chanted around Court Simonne Mathieu as he takes the opening point on Jesper de Jong's serve.

It's a typical battle this where you think one player is on the ropes and really losing momentum and energy and suddenly, when their back is up against the wall, they find another gear.

Bondar's just found extra pace there in that last point and in her legs again, and she's gone after the serve with more power on her shots.

It's toing and froing this match.

I've just witnessed the most spectacular forehand from Wawrinka down the line. Switched direction on the stretch and once again some applause from Jesper de Jong, who has been very classy during this match.

He knows the stakes for Wawrinka and that this is the last appearance at Roland Garros for the former champion. As he commits to the battle, he is able to respect the tennis being played.

Stan Wawrinka rolls back the years with a couple of stunning forehand winners, sending the crowd into a frenzy as the Swiss continues to show great fight in this match.

De Jong battles back to 30-30, but Wawrinka beats his opponent with a huge serve down the middle.

Very clever slice backhand from Svitolina. I call it the Andy Murray slice - where you come onto the inside of the ball and fade that ball away from the opponent and that was perfection.

  6. Svitolina breaks backpublished at 14:56 BST

    *Svitolina 3-6 6-1 2-3 Bondar

So what can Elina Svitolina do now? A break down in the deciding set and battling the scorching conditions out there.

But she's got herself three break points to claw her way back and she grabs the opportunity at the first time of asking. Game on!

    *Wawrinka 3-6 6-3 3-6 3-3 De Jong

Jesper de Jong doesn't offer Stan Wawrinka any encouragement in another dominant service game.

We are maybe seeing the first signs that Wawrinka is beginning to feel this physically after he is sent chasing shots around the court.

  8. Bondar breaks first in deciding setpublished at 14:53 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 6-1 1-3 Bondar*

Elina Svitolina's serve isn't troubling Anna Bondar and the Hungarian takes advantage to bring up two break points.

And all she has to do is watch as Svitolina whacks a forehand out of play. Advantage, Anna.

    Wawrinka 3-6 6-3 3-6 3-2 De Jong*

Stan Wawrinka whips up the crowd after sending Jesper de Jong charging from side to side, before the Dutchman eventually drops a shot into the net under relentless pressure.

An ace completes the game for the former champion, who is feeding off the crowd's energy here inside a packed Court Simonne Mathieu.

Now it's Anna Bondar's turn to save break points. Two of them. She makes lighter work of it than Elina Svitolina did in the last game, holding firm to nudge ahead again.

We're yet to have a break point opportunity in set four. Over to you, Stan...

All the energy has been zapped from these two players and it's going to be a battle of who can last the longest at this stage.

Finally! After almost 14 minutes, Elina Svitolina holds serve.

She looks absolutely exhausted out there - huffing and puffing in between points.

But she somehow has enough energy to save three break points against Anna Bondar and have a go at her coaching team.

Can she do anything on the Hungarian's serve, though?

Both players have made solid starts to the fourth set, and Stan Wawrinka holds again to edge back in front.

His final drop shot, after Jesper de Jong had closed to within 40-30, is closed down by the Dutchman - but De Jong nets after doing the hard work.

An impressive first service game from Jesper de Jong in the fourth set, too.

We're in for a bit of a dogfight in this final set and they're going to bring out the best in each other.

Intriguing points that they're playing; it's not straight-forward or boring. We're seeing use of the full court, variety, drop shots, angles, loopy shots - we're seeing a little bit of everything.

    *Wawrinka 3-6 6-3 3-6 0-0 De Jong

Stan Wawrinka takes the decision, a minute or two after the set has ended, to leave the court.

A cool down, a good drink, and potentially a fresh tee before reappearing ready to try and extend his final French Open.

Wawrinka's T-shirts at this championship make a subtle reference to the iconic shorts he wore during his triumphant French Open campaign in 2015, with the same pattern used on the inside of his collar.

  19. Bondar holds servepublished at 14:30 BST

    *Svitolina 3-6 6-1 0-1 Bondar

There's no sign of Elina Svitolina's husband - Gael Monfils - in her players' box today, but he would have absolutely loved that dinked drop shot.

Monfils, of course, will be getting ready for what could prove to be his final match at Roland Garros. He takes on fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston in this evening's night session.

Despite the brilliant drop shot, Svitolina can't stop Anna Bondar from getting the first game on the board in the deciding set.
