  6. 'It is only experiences that you can learn from'published at 20:05 BST 3 July

    Liu 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 Gauff

World number seven Coco Gauff, speaking on Court One after beating fellow American Claire Liu: "I'm just happy to get through. I had some opportunities to close it out in the second set but I'm glad I didn't let that derail me and I was able to come out with a win today. I felt better today, I think Claire [Liu] stepped up her level and I definitely had opportunities with some of those match points, but it is only experiences that you can learn from."

On how she will prepare for her next match: "Well I wasn't really tired after the match two days ago and I don't really think I'll be tired after this one. It's grass so you aren't playing too many long points in all honesty. For example, I had a two-setter at Roland Garros on the clay that was more physical than all my matches here.

"I'll probably just take an ice bath or something, I don't know because I'm still young so I honestly don't really wake up sore after a match. I only really feel like that if I lift heavy [in the gym], but I'm obviously not doing that during the tournament. Maybe in a couple of years from now I'll have a more thorough post-match plan!"

On coming through difficult periods in her first three matches: "I don't think I'm playing my best tennis. I think I served as well as I did in my last match today, but I held serve when I needed to. I definitely feel more confident after the last two matches because both the opponents I played were high-level players and very good grass-court players. Belinda [Bencic] will be the same, she is good on this surface as well so it will be a tough one."

It's a shame that they're going to have to shut the roof. It's always best in the outdoor tournaments when they actually play outside.

Gauff certainly did fight it out. You wonder how she's going to reorganise mentally. That's two rounds where she hasn't played her best tennis.

It's really remarkable the way that Coco Gauff can let that second set go but completely reset and put it in the rear-view mirror. She started elevating her game, playing with pure aggression and started to serve better.

Overall, she played more tennis on the front foot. Now that we're getting into the second week, that's the tennis she's going to have to play to get into the quarter-finals for the first time.

Over on Centre Court, it remains cut and thrust between third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Michael Zheng with a tie-break on the horizon.

After failing to take a couple of break points at 5-4, Zheng went on to seal a hold to love before Auger-Aliassime responded with a hold to 15.

Huge cheers for Coco Gauff as a hard-earned victory is secured.

‘Yesssss!’ she cries as her progress is confirmed.

Claire Liu gets a wonderful ovation for her efforts, having battled valiantly to take this match to a decider.

Gauff rolls on to the fourth round, matching her best ever result at Wimbledon. Now she will seek to use this battling victory as a springboard to beat that PB at the All England Club.

Up next for Coco Gauff is Belinda Bencic, who had to come through her own three-set battle against Anna Kalinskaya.

Gauff hit 18 winners to 29 unforced errors today.

For Claire Liu, 57 unforced errors outweighed her 26 winners.

One thing Gauff does so well is the mental battle. The silence is so loud, there's no turning around and complaining to her coaches. She's just able to bounce back so well.

Coco Gauff closes it out at the first attempt (in this set, at least).

She's come through another three-set battle to reach the fourth round for the fourth time. She's never gone beyond this stage at Wimbledon.

Huge reception for world number 146 Claire Liu as she leaves Court One. If only her forehand had clicked today - she could have really pushed Gauff.

Michael Zheng gets to 40-30 against serve and puts Felix Auger-Aliassime under pressure for the first time in this match. But the American fails to capitalise.

Zheng gets another break point opportunity but fires long. Auger-Aliassime's experience comes to the fore as he battles to the hold.

For the second time, she's serving for the match. She had an opportunity at 5-3 in the second and was broken to love remember...
