    Wu 1-0 Lei

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC Two

Both players look in good form. Lei Peifan missed the one with the rest but apart from that it was pretty good. However, Wu Yize needed one chance and it allowed him to take the opening frame.

  2. Wu takes opening framepublished at 14:54 BST

    Wu 1-0 Lei

Lei Peifan opens up with a break of 32 but can only find the jaw of the pocket when he attempts to pot a red into the corner pocket using the rest.

It proves a key moment in the frame.

Wu Yize seizes the opportunity and calmly goes about clearing up the rest of the table en route to a break of 93.

An impressive start by number 10 Wu.

What a match. John Higgins was in total control and missed an easy red. John has got a big uphill struggle against a man that is full of confidence.

Barry Hearn, President of Matchroom Sport, speaking on BBC Two: "Hats off to Sheffield Council and World Snooker, they did a great deal. Did we get everything we wanted, no, did everyone else, no, but we did a deal that worked for everybody.

"We didn't get the 3,000 seat we wanted, we eneded up with 1,500 but we ended up with a venue that is fit for purpose at the standard we expect our great sport to be played at, where we can entertain people properly, we can give customer experience the real Crucible feeling. It was tired, it needed looking after and everyone has come up with the goods.

"We can take it wherever we want to take it [while the work is being done]. The broadcasters want it to stay and my gut feel is that I'd like it to stay in the UK. The most impritant thing for me, is that I want to work done in a year, I don't want to be away for two years I think that is too long and I know Sheffield Council are on with it."

Wu Yize is regarded as one of China's biggest talents after world champion Zhao Xintong.

He won the International Championship earlier this season and has reached the semi-finals of the World Open, Welsh Open and the Masters.

He starts as favourite against Lei Peifan, who shocked Kyren Wilson, 12 months ago.

Here we go again. Tough one to call this match.

Ali Carter has actually won four of his previous five meetings against John Higgins (excluding the Championship League) and will probably relish the prospect of a potential last-16 meeting against Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Higgins has reached three finals this term but failed to convert any of them into W's.

But he is a four-time world champion and has repeatedly shown that he simply can never be discounted.

"All I do is play well and hopefully the fans like."

On facing Zhao Xintong: "I think it is just a match. We both want to play really well. he really wants to defend this. We will see on the day. I know, it's an incredible match against Zhao Xintong. I know he's playing very good. He won the last three tournaments, he is so confident, very consistent and people love to watch him, me too."

  10. Teenager Moody impresses against 2024 winner Wilsonpublished at 13:09 BST

    Wilson 3-6 Moody

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at the Crucible

British teenager Stan Moody made a hugely impressive debut at the Crucible as he moved into a 6-3 lead in his World Championship first-round match against former winner Kyren Wilson.

Moody, 19, needs four more frames to become the youngest player to win a match at the famous Sheffield theatre since a 19-year-old Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Dave Harold 10-3 in round one in 1995.

Wilson, the 2024 champion, will have to win seven frames in Monday's evening session, which begins at 19:00 BST, if he is to advance.

After getting a great reception from the crowd, Moody, who comes from Halifax, less than 50 miles away from the Crucible, made an instant impact with a break of 84.

He then took the next two, including a break of 91, before Wilson won two frames in a row. However, Moody responded superbly with two centuries in three frames, 110 in frame six and then 101 two frames later.

Wilson claimed the final frame of the session, to reduce the deficit to three.

Moody is 44th in the world rankings and had to win two matches to qualify.

The day before his final qualifying match he had been in hospital with tonsillitis but discharged himself, against medical advice, before playing and beating China's Jiang Jun 10-9 to earn his Crucible spot.

That last shot by Moody was wild and gave Wilson a sniff, 6-3 and he's back in it. The first session in the evening is crucial but I still fancy the Warrior!

    Moody, Birmingham

Godfather Ding taking on the mercurial Zhao Xintong! We are being spoiled for a round of 16 match, it could have easily been a final.

Kyren will be devastated with the scoreline and being 6-3 behind. It's a dream debut for the youngster.

He'll be over the moon with that.

It's a massive last frame, the difference between being three and five behind.

  13. 'Last frame feels vital'published at 12:58 BST

    Wilson 3-6 Moody

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Kyren Wilson would still have believed he could win tonight but this last frame feels vital.

He looks like he is cueing well but he has been outplayed this morning, it is as simple as that.

  14. Wilson takes final frame of morning sessionpublished at 12:55 BST

    Wilson 3-6 Moody

This is a test of Kyren Wilson's cueing and it's on point. 'The Warrior' knocks in a break of 77 to reduce his arrears going into the concluding session this evening.

    Wilson 2-6 Moody

Is adrenaline kicking in? Stan Moody misses a long red with way too much power. It's a little wild and it allows Kyren Wilson to get his arm on the table in a decent spot on the table.

There's plenty to do from here but if the 2024 champion was anywhere near his best you'd fancy him to make a decent break from this.

A massive match incoming that may increase audience figues and interest in China.

Ding Junhui will take on defending champion Zhao Xintong after wrapping up a first-round victory over David Gilbert with a run of 61 in the 15th frame helping him get over the line.

    Wilson 2-6 Moody

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Kyren Wilson was one of the contenders at the start of this but his World Championship depends on him winning this last frame. If Stan Moody continues to play like this tonight, you can't see a comeback.

The first three frames were incredible from Stan Moody but I have been more impressed by how he reacted after it went 3-2.

Steve Davis again "we could be looking at the youngest world champion" - the lad has only won four frames, behave yourself man. He's not gotten past Kyren (and nor will he I suspect)

    Nick, Cheshire

Great to see Stan giving Kyren a game here. That century will give him so much confidence. Come on Stan the man!

    Daniel, Swadlincote

Stan is playing his natural game. Credit to his preparation and the team he has around him. He and Liam are the best home hopes for the future. Kyren has not had his best season. Don't count him out yet!

    Carl, Blackburn

If Kyren Wilson loses in the first round of the World Championship he's going to be in a terrible mood-y.

What a massive frame this is going to be for Kyren Wilson. He is desperate for this to end 6-3 instead of 7-2.

It's a great feeling when you keep getting chnaces like this amongst the balls. It's A,B,C snooker for Stan Moody.
